I wonder what the legalities of a 3 year deal at say 800k are to trigger band one. Then once signed, an immediate contract extension early next year of two years at say 400k are. Effectively making it 640k a season over 5 years, and also getting Essendon their pick 7?

Don't be surprised if that's the case.

Per the ruling on Buddy you can't amend later years of a FA offer - the Swans have to pay out each year of his deal. We'd be able to extend for extra years, but couldn't muck around with the ones in the FA offer sheet.

So if you mean we'd add on 2 more years at say 600k for 2024-25 then I don't think there is an issue with that. But I wouldn't rule out this 3 year deal having a trigger for a further year either - that further year wouldn't be relevant to compo as it is not guaranteed money and would be incentive based.

Yeah which is the very scenario I proposed. Just adding two extra years on the end of the contract at 400k a season. Which would effectively average out his salary over the five years at 640k. No different to front loading a contract.

Totally legal then, though I'm not sure Daniher would agree to such a low monetary figure. We also might want to limit our long term committment given injury risj even though those last 2 years would be cheaper.
