Home Isolation Advice:

What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

Dear posters: unsubstantiated advice will be deleted. We understand you want to help, but #fakenews blah blah blah we're not allowing any disinformation. Got some great advice about washing your hands whilst dancing like David Byrne in Once In A Lifetime helps kill the virus? That's fantastic, provide a link to a reputable source.

Gillon reckons the season will proceed without crowds. Putting players health at risk and more importantly the population at large. He's delusional if he doesn't think this won't spread like wildfire on field. Surely this ain't gonna happe. The smart decision would be to postpone for now and reassess once all players and staff have been tested and quarantined if at risk or infected. 17 rounds followed by finals seems logical at a later date. If the season is completely cancelled I feel draft picks should be worked out based on last year and a lottery system should be used for pick 1. Bottom 4 clubs involved in the lottery.

Interesting to see the Aussie cricket team sharing drink bottles last night, I know they are the squirty type but still.

Look it’s pretty simple - the Chief Medical Officer advised that it should be held off until Monday to avoid the potential for mass panic.

But keep going with the anti Christian, blame Scomo for absolutely f....g everything garbage that’s filled social media since the election.

It’s guaranteed to get him a 2nd term
People pre the press conference.
Scotty needs to listen to the chief health people!
People post the press conference, Scotty should have defied the chief health person!

I think it’s pretty easy to see why they’ve given a couple of days notice.
People are pointing to the F1 being a big event to shut down and if they can do it so can others, well that’s such a big fenced event it’s pretty easy to not open the gate.
Smaller non fenced events that don’t have the capability to get their information out quickly would be harder to shut down.
People have already gotten hysterical over this, just imagine what would happen if it was effective immediately.

Spoke to a player from the GSFL (Great Southern) and he said they have been instructed ' No waterboys , 1 bottle per person - with name '

You would think that was common sense, especially for the Aussie cricket team.

I wonder if these leagues will have to suspend their season, I mean 500 would be pushing it for some matchdays but the bigger clubs would get that easily enough

How long would an isolation/cancellation period need to last to be effective?

One month? Twelve months?

Million dollar question I suppose
Agree. As you can say a month but then what..if there are still live cases of the virus in the community you go back to square 1 in terms of creating an environment for spreading all over again

I just want to point out that despite the increasing numbers found, this is likely due to more testing as well as more spread of the virus. With increased testing, we are picking up more numbers with the milder flu symptoms.

Even more encouraging that the infected cases have come up exponentially but the death tally remains the same. Meaning, our chances of us getting it is increased but our chances of overcoming it is also increased!

Also, at what cost to our economy and limited resources of equipments and time constraints to all health professionals involved? Then there’s the opportunity cost for working people with their family to look after.
The questions are many, but hard to be answered adequately with the pandemic currently in its most contagious phase and the pattern fluctuates wildly from country to country.

Potentially you may get reinfections, but there is also a likelihood the infected cases may well have built up immunity or partial immunity to it, and less likely to get it again or get it but with less severe symptoms (hopefully).

I said major sport.......Oops, only joking.

I know the Reds are still allowing spectators on Sunday but I doubt if they will get 2,000. IMHO, the arbitrary number of 500 is a joke. If you have 500 people at an indoor concert it would be virus heaven. Much lower risk of spreading the virus if there are 2,000 people at Richmond Oval. The Grand Prix was a recipe for disaster as was the T20 final. A capacity crowd in Townsville should move things along nicely.

Went out for a post travel beverage last night. Royal Oak was Coronavirus heaven, wall to wall human. Would have needed to pash the barman and all of the 4 patrons at the Oxford to catch the disease. Walked back past the Oak on way home and noticed that the crowd was entirely our age and the live music was belting out ‘80s. The younger us would still be there, but we walked straight past for a glass of red and a short walk to deal with the Bulldog’s urinary requirements.

I know but what about those who had not contracted it in the first place and have had no previous exposure. They will be at the same risk as they are now after whatever fixed period government / sport bodies put in place

TV deal will always be the deciding factor unfortunately.

I thought that was a bit strange too.

It’s not a big risk yet. We’re not a country that will fudge numbers and we presently have less than a couple of hundred cases across the nation. It’s ridiculously unlikely that we’ll contract the virus in the ordinary course of our lives at present. Still, an ounce of prevention.

Vader going on the cruise is frickin hilarious. Clearly he values his life at exactly $3000.

My understanding is that it is the time taken in order to ensure that the hospital system can cope. So it will vary from country to country and obviously from one state to another.

Isolation period is meant to also reduce the exponential growth of the virus in the population.
