Home Isolation Advice:

What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

Dear posters: unsubstantiated advice will be deleted. We understand you want to help, but #fakenews blah blah blah we're not allowing any disinformation. Got some great advice about washing your hands whilst dancing like David Byrne in Once In A Lifetime helps kill the virus? That's fantastic, provide a link to a reputable source.

It’s not a big risk yet. We’re not a country that will fudge numbers and we presently have less than a couple of hundred cases across the nation. It’s ridiculously unlikely that we’ll contract the virus in the ordinary course of our lives at present. Still, an ounce of prevention.
the players have just been overseas.
Kane Richardson was still being quarantined up until the match, you’d think they’d do something as simple as have their own water bottles.

Vader going on the cruise is frickin hilarious. Clearly he values his life at exactly $3000.

Actually at no more than $3,000. His value could be any number less than that. Still, undiagnosed health issues aside, he’d be very unlucky to succumb to the virus given his age profile. I’ll be continuing living life as normal and will go to the seppeltsfield concert in a couple of weeks if it’s still on.

You do HIRAC, squirty bottles eliminate the risk. They don’t require another level of control. More likely to catch it from the person bringing it than the bottle itself.

Funny how you pretty much accused me of wanting the older generation euthanised for having the same attitude

Fix up your quote in the scomo thread, or attribute it to the poster who actually said it if you have got confused

Just make sure you don't visit any elderly or ill relatives as if you get it it might not be too bad for you but to others you have contact with.......

My local footy club has sent out an email to say we need to limit our attendance to players and officials

Apart from sardine packed type gatherings, we’re not being advised to change much except focus on our hand cleaning and to sneeze into our elbow. Otherwise, it’s business as usual at present. I think the 1m personal space won’t too much a problem at Seppeltsfield. If it looks like the Royal Oak did last night, I’ll keep walking until I find a space that I’m happy with.

How long would an isolation/cancellation period need to last to be effective?

One month? Twelve months?

Million dollar question I suppose
Knowing the AFL, once one player gets infected, they'll try infect all the players and staff and get the couple of weeks of sickness over and done with.

Then they'll continue the season

Pretty sure the red hot summer tour is done. So far we are batting at 100% events being cancelled

They’ll bring in a rule that you’ve got to keep 3 players with Corona in the F50 at all times.

Yeh, reckon you’re right. But I keep hearing words like “should”, “advice” and the like. I spent enough time in HSEQ to know what that means in practice. Will it be law or just advice similar to recent travel advice. My hope is that the artist’s need for cash sees the gigs go ahead, half the ticket holders don’t go out of fear and I enjoy even more personal space. I live in hope, but expect the worst. I’m an AFC tragic after all, it’s a way of life.

It’s hard to get a real idea of where this is all going. I think it’s one of those times when the reality is everyone is in the same boat. This virus has been known for only a few months and there are no experts on the subject of Covid 19.

What we do know about the virus is that it spreads quickly by contact, we don’t have a cure yet and it originated in a Chinese province sometime in late 2019. Thats about it.

so all we get is wash your hands and don’t touch your face. Don’t shake hands and definitely don’t go near anyone who has recently been overseas. Especially China.

I think the government haven’t done enough considering their only response so far up to Friday was economic . Pump money into the economy and prepare the health system for the craziness to come.

What they didn’t do in my opinion was to act swiftly while there was still a slight chance of containing the spread in Australia. Schools and Universities and especially daycare centres needed to be closed immediately and indefinitely.
With the obvious follow on of closing businesses as well. Parents would need to stay home for the kids.

once a Pandemic was declared this should have been the only response considered. But we seemed to dither about trivial stuff. Should the footy still go ahead? Should we cancel major sporting events?

Is it coincidence the government only took more action once one of its own ministers was diagnosed?

This thing seems to be accelerating faster than the news cycles can keep up with. Trump is jumping from sceptic to full blown believer at the blink of an eye. He is a germaphobe so this isn’t unexpected.

I think in the end this may be one of those overblown stories pushed by a ravenous media machine with a little help from panicky health officials....But....What if it ain’t?? I’m starting to change my own thinking on this Covid 19. Last week it was a bit of a joke at work. Why is everyone worried about another strain of the flue? Big deal nothing a box off tissues and a cough lolly can’t fix.

but the problem with the full blown Covid 19 cases that develope into viral pneumonia is there is no cure and little can be done except ventilation in an ICU. You are really on your own fighting the disease. If your immune system can handle it you may pull through but there is not much doctors can do. That is scarey shit.

So essentially: the CMO hasn't explained it, and so far there is no corroborating independent evidence to support his (their) decision

And you're wondering why people might be skeptical?
This is more commonly referred to as Scomo Derrangement Syndrome or SDS. It’s a strain similar to Trump Derrangement Syndrome.

They commonly cause otherwise normal people to attribute blame for everything in the world on to one person. In this way they fuel a bizarre belief that they can somehow reverse an election result that wasn’t expected and didn’t like.

The major symptoms are a complete loss of common sense, objectivity and rational analysis. An example would be say...completely ignoring the advice of CMO and say something ridiculous like Scomo made it all up so that he could squeeze in a religious conference. That’s pure SDS.

For the record I would like to see a full lockdown sooner rather than later, but I’m not the one trying to balance the response with a major economy.

Global shortage of Covid-19 test kits hits Australia as other nations limit exports | Health | The Guardian
How is it that South Korea has been testing 10,000 people a day? Because they were prepared.

Testing is the only way to contain spread. The US and Australia two examples of not being prepared at all. In regards to the medical equipment, one would have thought they would have stockpiled this for such an event instead of wasting money on US military hardware.
Note to the world, generally a bad idea when everything is manufactured in one country.

I just want to point out that despite the increasing numbers found, this is likely due to more testing as well as more spread of the virus. With increased testing, we are picking up more numbers with the milder flu symptoms.

Even more encouraging that the infected cases have come up exponentially but the death tally remains the same. Meaning, our chances of us getting it is increased but our chances of overcoming it is also increased!
Here, yes, the world no.

we had a task force that was supposed to prepare the country for such an occasion

a certain party spent the better part of 2012-2016 defunding it while in control of the purse strings

a certain orange hobgoblin then dismantled it three years ago

lesson is you reap what you sow—put imbeciles in charge and you get what you see unfolding here

we earned it and now we get to wear it
