I would assume it's due to the Dogs small forward line more than anything else. It's not like he is going to be the first 3 options in standing Hall. Perhaps also with his previous history of injuries and the flight back from Perth they do not want to over work him either?
Even though I would have still liked to have seen him on Hill, ohh well.

He did an interview the other week and he knew he would have to bide his time. He mentioned the return of the great Chad could push him out, but he understood.
I am sure he will take it on the chin and he'll be back soon enough.

I am as big a fan of trengove as anyone but he is behind bobby, chappy and chad at the moment.
His time will come.

Which is to be expected for an older player like Chad. He has only played one game, his first half was scratchy, his second half was good. Give the guy a break. He will be ready to go come round one.
Using your formula half of geelongs premiership team wouldnt be playing round one.
Having said that I would expect Trengove to come in for round one with Chappy out.
I can't find anywhere that says Trengove has been dropped.

Two unlucky out and two good outs!
Nash and Logan are ok, but not good enough, Trengove and Lobbe with a taste, wouldn't surprised if they dont play at all this weekend, and Both play the last ?two? games. Now about player management.
