NAB Cup Round 1 - St Kilda vs Brisbane Lions

Considering the only likely inclusion is Bradshaw, my team would be:

B: Adcock, Merrett, Johnson
HB: Copeland, Mills, Patfull
C: Sherman, Rischitelli, Moody
HF: Tyler, Charman, Stiller
F: McGrath, Bradshaw, Harding
Ruck: Wood, Black, Power
Int: Leunenberger, Notting, Allan, Sheldon, Begley, Kiel

Fixter to replace Adcock if he is ruled out. I would have to play Bradshaw up forward because there is noone else.

But honestly, i expect that team to get a bit of a touch up. We have no other talls available.

Charman @ CHF:thumbsu:

What are the chances of Patful being chucked forward in this game...maybe put him at CHF while Charman goes the square. Got to admit I have no clue what Big Daddy has planned for him, so anybody got any idea of where he might play, in this game or throughout the year (or is that a discussion for another thread or player watch)?

Like Charman, I'd expect him to play back through necessity. Mind you, the Saints are without a few talls too, so it depends what they throw up.

Who do we play next week and where, when we lose. Not a chance with all our outs for us to win this one.

We're not. Pulling up stumps for the year. Looks too dicey.

For those interested, the St Kilda website lists the folllowing players as not available for this match:

Koschitske
Riewoldt
Hudghton
Maguire
Hayes
Gardiner
R. Clarke
Hamill
L. Fisher

I would imagine there would be others left out of selection for the first trial of the year. For example, would St Kilda look to keep veterans like Gerhig and Harvey fresh for closer to the season proper?

Given those outs, I think we have a fair chance of matching it with St Kilda.

question - does anyone really care about the NAB cup?

It's the list for Round 1 and how we play in that game that I am interested in. Until then it is all just more training etc etc.

Fractured eyeleashes, bruised fingernails etc etc are all that come out around this time.

Last year we had a fighting win over a supposedly hot Essendon and acquitted ourselves ok against the Dees, and I think that actually set us up confidence-wise ok for the start of the season proper -- especially considering our first month was very tough. In particular, Harding, Rischitelli and early on, Clark and Mills built their seasons on their good NAB cup form. In fact, we were still travelling pretty well till Browny went down mid season.

At the moment we only have one position in out spine as a 'lock'. Side like WC and Sydney have those 5 locked in. I think the reality is we're going to be 'inventing' a huge chunk of our next good side on-the-fly and the more chance we get to practice that, the better.

So, yeah, I'm not looking to win it, but I hope we're professional about our approach to it, and the value we can get out of it, compared to other sides.

Lucky the players can get to Number 19 then eh?

Will be a good chance for some fringe players to push their case for Round 1, I'd expect we will give a better showing than many of us are expecting.

I agree, Cam Wood seems to have stepped up, and the likes of Tyler, Schmidt, Sheldon looked the goods on Friday nite....Tyler get hammered a few times, but showed class....i can't wait to see what he is like in 2-3 years with some more bulk

Adcock looked particularly impressive down back, Merrett ditto, and Patfull looked ripped

the only worrying thing is that Nige probably won't be ready.....he needs game time after missing out all of last year....i hope that Popov is working overtime to get him right :thumbsu: :)

question - does anyone really care about the NAB cup?

I do - for 3 main reasons.

1 - It usually gives a pretty good indication of where a side is at (although there are exceptions to that). Winning teams in the pre-season often carry that form through to the season.

2 - It allows the fan to cut through the usual club bullsh.t of "Player X has been training the house down" and actually judge for themselves where certain players are at.

3 - For young sides, it helps develop a winning mentality.

Of course round 1 is more important, but that doesn't mean that pre-season games are irrelevant.

saying this for all to read.

Campbell - will you ever learn?

for example your post culd have said

If we lose against the Saints next week who will we play in a practice game and where. Does anyone know?

Personally with all our outs I don't think we have much of a chance but we will wait and see, here's hoping anyways. Haven't yet seen the outs for St Kilda so that coud be a little more telling with regards to predicting a result.

Comprende?

All you do when you post in such a way is rile people up, we have had these discusions in the past and you don't appear to have learned.

To posters responding to Campbell directly, - when will you ever learn? Report the post let the mods and admins deal with it. How many times do we have to tell you this.

From this point on posts will simply be deleted and infraction points issued.

Ask Michael Voss.

He seemed more pleased with a win over Essendon last year, than he did after the 03 GF.

Great for the young guys' confidence. In saying that though, my interest in the comp is purely wishing that all get through un-injured.

so I gather it imost see it as a training exercise, more paddock time ya da ya da ya da. That all makes sense. Sorry if my question came out wrong. I agree it is good to see them play but not really interested in the score and I don't believe it is a pre-cursor for the season. It's just a good hit out before the season proper.

and yes no injuries out of the NAB is a priority!!! If I don't watch it that will be the first report I will be looking for.
