Lethal was interviewed on Channel 7 tonight. In a nutshell:

- Bradshaw and the Burger out
- Bozo and Jared likely ins
- No word on Jed
- Browny back second or third week of PS games, more likely second.
- Captaincy/leadership regime won't be announced until the end of PS games

That's all I can remember. That could be all there was. Memory = sieve.

They also mentioned that Seven was showing the footy this year, in case anyone did not know...:D

Shame about Berger. I was looking forward to seeing him play.

LL - I care about the NAB not because it is that great a competition or I am that worried about the results but because it gives me a chance to see the young guys play who chances are I won't get to see much of during the year given that I live outside Bris and can't get to the Suncoast games. Its a chance to see the next generation of players and I like it for that reason.

I'm pretty sure lethal said that jed would be right for the game, they showed him training while he said it aswell.

An injury, steady as she goes plan or is it a case of Bozo fit and the Burger goes to the back of the line to earn his stripes?

There was no elaboration IIRC, but he was mentioned in the same breath as Bradshaw, so he may have a niggle that they're being careful with. In Nick's interview with Hadyn Kiel, Kiel remarked that most of the first year players were carrying niggles of some sort (which I would expect to be the norm across all clubs).

Sweet. I was cooking a stir fry at the time so it only had three-quarters of my attention. :D

Double blow for Lions
22 February 2007 Herald-Sun
Andrew Hamilton

BRISBANE Lions will be without the services of two key big men for Saturday night's NAB Cup match against St Kilda in Cairns.

Back injuries have forced forward Daniel Bradshaw and No. 4 draft pick Matthew Leuenberger out.

The Lions had planned to play three ruckmen and rotate them through the forward line to cover the absence of Jonathan Brown, who won't return for another three weeks.

But Leuenberger, 18, pulled up sore from last week's intraclub match.

Lions missing tall timber

By Andrew Hamilton

February 22, 2007 BRISBANE Lions will be without the services of two key big men in Saturday's NAB Cup opener in Cairns, with back injuries ruling out Daniel Bradshaw and Matthew Leuenberger.

The Lions had hoped to get a first-up look at gun draftee Leuenberger against St Kilda.

The 18-year-old ruckman cut a forlorn figure as he watched training last night, knowing he would have been guaranteed plenty of game time against the Saints had he not injured his back just days before his scheduled debut.

The Lions planned to take three ruckmen north and rotate them through the forward line to cover the absence of Jonathan Brown, who isn't scheduled to return until the third week of the pre-season tournament, and Bradshaw.

The Lions' leading goalkicker last season trained away from the main group with strength coach Alex Moore last night and will be another week off.

Leuenberger earned high praise from Lions coach Leigh Matthews after last week's intra-club scratch match, but he pulled up sore from his first major competitive hit-out and was unable to train.

"We'd hoped to have him, but I'm told he's just not going to be ready," Matthews said.

The West Australian ruckman, taken at pick No.4 in the national draft, was set to spend major game time on the ball while No.1 ruckman Jamie Charman was at full forward.

The Lions won't be undersized with premiership ruckman Beau McDonald, who missed the intra-club game and was expected to have a delayed start to his season, forcing his way into the side with a strong session on the track.

McDonald will share the ruck duties with Cameron Wood allowing Matthews to stick to his plan of using Charman as a marking target.

Jared Brennan, another who missed last week's hit-out, and highly rated young defender Jed Adcock will also play.

Adcock was kneed in the back last Friday, but proved his fitness in a 30-minute scratch match last night.

Brennan, recovering from shoulder surgery, also took part in the competitive work and could provide the Lions with another marking option.

Although Leuenberger is out, Lions fans could get a chance to see fellow draftee Matthew Tyler and rookie Haydn Kiel.

The Saints are expected to be without veteran Brett Voss who sprained his ankle in training this week.

Both pretty short, inexperienced sides. Certainly nothing about the Saints side to scare the willies out of you. Xav Clarke is the closest things they have to a star in that side.

Who do you think will be our chf/ff?

Could have wood and mcdonald in the ruck with charman chf I suppose

edit : just read that article above which answered my question

There are 28 players there so I'm guessing 4 players will be cut from that list (ie. 6 on the interchange bench).

I seem to remember if it's hot enough they permit 8 on the bench, but it'll be most likely bucketing down up there.

It's definitely one of the most inexperienced teams we've ever fielded.

Out of our best 22 we're missing:

Ball
Dal Santo
R Clarke
Gardiner
Gehrig
Hamill
Harvey
Hayes
Hudghton
Koschitzke
Maguire
Riewoldt
Voss

I don't really mind. It's a great chance for our kids and fringe players to stake a claim for a spot in round one. In fact I'm probably looking forward to the game even more than had we fielded a strong team.

It may be raining but the humidity won't suit our boys and even with your missing players I think you'll have far too much firepower for us.

Good luck.

Good post Sainter...That is a lot of outs though and I think your mostly right (although you may be overrating the Lions a little)...Pretty different looking sides to what hopefully will be in round 1...not a real quality key forward or defender between them but your right, in particular the triple captains Power, Black and Johnson should get the Lions over the line. Although who knows at NAB cup time and the way we've played against the Sainters in recent times.

On another note, great to see the mighty old man Clarke in the team. HAve always taken an interest in him and am glad to see he got picked up...ruck stocks not a weakness anymore for the saints methinks.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how our ruckmen go.

Playing a NAB Cup match in wet and humid conditions is probably not what Doc Clarke signed up for when he decided to go around again but I'm really happy he's playing.

Gardiner should be right by round 1 and Rix has been impressive during pre-season.

I wouldn't mind having a Leuenberger waiting in the wings though.
