Just googled Bailey Williams from the Bulldogs ... he goes alright too!

Damn !!

Is the Michael Hartley the Bombers drafted with their last pick (#68), the same player they 'declined' as a top-up player earlier this year?
Yup. They can rebuild him. They have the technology. They can make him better than he was. Better...stronger...faster.

Just got a little update from Trout who lives next door to my father in Law. I watched the draft at his place and let off a bit of steam when the lions picked Matho at 39. My father in law told trout I was distraught regarding pick 39. Just like Persevering Saint updates he said we wouldn't have taken him. He said we have too many of his type and did not rate him any higher than our current crop of inside type players assuming he means Ross Dunstan etc. He said that the mandate was speed and most importantly top ball users. He said to tell your son in law we got a very good player at 40 and were rapt to get him that late.

Thanks for sharing :thumbsu:

I was getting excited when Mathieson & Balic looked to be available @ pick 40.

Stoked with White though, hoping he can turn into a big bodied mid..

Nice. Upon hearing these tidbits of post-draft truth from the likes of Trout & Finnis just reinforces the fact that we know nothing!!

Discussion on here (primarily around Matho) got to the point of justifying him as a top 5 pick, reasons why we in fact needed to add MORE to our inside brigade. When in actual fact, we were never bloody interested.

I believe some were a little deflated when we JUST missed out on him by a pick (given the talk of just how highly rated he was by the club) ... however, this wasn't ever really the case.

Really looking forward to watching Brandon White develop over the coming years.

Funny in hindsight how we talked and argued about Matho for weeks and he wad never really in the frame anyway:D

I think some were sold a big dummy re Matho. I was on the Gresham bandwagon anyway but thought it was weird that he was supposedly mooted top 5 by our recruiters nut not in any phantom draft top 20.
We always needed speed and apparently that's what we went for.

Makes our arguments here a bit silly sometimes

I think the clincher is "we didn't rate him as better than what we have". So yeah , while a new "Joel Selwood" would be great, another "Seb Ross, or Tom Curren" is not so useful.
Was interesting that the Hawks also took a risk on an "injured gun" rather than any of the other picks available to them. My physio was discussing it with me and considered Burton's injury "very tricky", but obviously the hawks prefer to risk it for the upside than take an average sort.

White on the other hand has skills and abilities we lack. His main drawback seems to be a poor tank. Thinking about it I don't know of many footballers who fail to build up their durability.
I guess the main risk is that he never develops into a midfielder.
Paige Cardona said he was the most underrated player in the draft. I'm glad the news didn't leak out earlier :D

Yep, Matho was somehow thrown in there as a decoy and most of us here (including myself) fell for it.
