Between picks 20 and 30, our 2nd rounder is pick 25 There are a lot of mids, inside with speed. Any of these 3 would be a good get.
Not many key forwards at 194-197 cms in that range, well there were three that were all over 2 meters tall who are forwards/ruck, but we have one in Samson Ryan, 206 cm, who is still young and developing. Guess they will go for the best available than for needs, but please no more running half-back flankers!

DeMattia's speed, ball-getting ability and versatility was on show in round 17 against Tasmania, when the Dandenong prospect gathered 30 disposals, eight inside 50s, eight clearances and a goal in perhaps the best game of his season. The Vic Country captain showed his turn of pace and he was happy to use it, busting out of the centre several times (he notched a game-high four centre clearances that day). Through the season DeMattia has also played as a forward and occasionally across half-back.

Harry DeMattia kicks the ball during the Dandenong Stingrays' Coates Talent League match against Eastern Ranges on May 28, 2023.

Another late-season bolter who has pushed himself into top-30 contention. Edwards is a bigger-bodied midfielder who had clubs starting to narrow their focus on him after the mid-season championships, which he didn't play for Vic Metro. He has spent time at half-back over the past two years but will be drafted as a midfielder, having shown some of his burst out of the centre on Sunday playing for Sandringham, when he had 22 disposals and a goal.

Stevens is one of the more interesting players in the draft pool given his standout performances in the second half of this season. After missing last year with an ACL injury, Stevens started this year playing as a half-back. But his form in the second half of the season with the Rebels as a brute inside midfielder and ball-winner has demanded attention. The AFL Academy captain averaged 29 disposals for the Rebels, showing his clearance strengths and ability in tight. Solidly built and ready to play against mature bodies, Stevens will be a fascinating watch where he gets picked, having also shown his talent with Geelong's VFL side when he had 29 disposals against Collingwood in round 21.

Do the phantom draft range beyond 20 normally reflect the actual picks? Dont teams normally pick for needs (not us) at the second round? Or is it still best perceived value?

I know we really like Shai Bolton #2 - Lance Collard. West Coast NGA but has all the talent in the world. Can do things others can’t.

Not sure if he’s around at our first pick so may need to move up the order.
the shai bolton #2 comment made me watch a bunch of vids of him playing because shai's u18s vids were insane and pretty much exactly how he plays at afl level and i don't see the shai comparisons outside of him giving away a 50 and also hearing the commentators in a tight loss saying "he needs to repay his team for some of the ill discipline work"

doesn't kick like shai, leap for marks like him and doesn't have the same insane lateral agility

in saying that he looks a better small fwd offensively than mansell, already like him more than mrj, and jury is out on coulthard will have to see how coulthard develops next year. so i wouldn't be upset with drafting collard, though preferably with our 2nd pick if it gets pushed under pick 40 cos of NGA

also rated collard giving shit to the oppo in the "ill discipline" game, especially cos they were losing and he wasn't just downhill skiing

Hmm drafting a Collard from WA with lots of talent but no discipline?

I think we may have seen this movie before. :$

We have pick 26, this guy could be around the mark and suits a need, both as a future ruck prospect or more hopefully as a future KPF.

30. Archer Reid (unranked)
Gippsland Power/Vic Country
FWD, 203cm, 93kg
Talent League: 11 games, 13.5 disposals, 1.5 goals

Reid has all the tools to be a star at the next level, with his height, aerobic capacity and safe hands. He's also had a strong backend of the year, but he hasn't quite shown an ability to be a first-choice ruckman or the number-one target in the forward line. The ceiling remains very high for the brother of Essendon's Zach.

Poor man’s version of Harley Reid?

All the tools hey?

anyone know much about Kristian Ferronato? In the couple Northern Knights games i've watched for Charlie Naish Kristian has looked pretty good as a powerful inside mid, haven't seen much about him on phantom form guides and mock drafts etc.

What sort of player is he?

Think Isaac Heeney with Bolton's athleticism. Is also very good on both sides of his body. Was touted as a potential top 5 pick mid last year but struggled with a persistent hip injury this year meaning the most games he played consecutively in any league this year was 3.

STRENGTHS:

  • Aerial ability
  • Character
  • Class
  • Dual-footed
  • Speed
  • Vertical leap

IMPROVEMENTS:

  • Consistency
  • Durability
  • Production

If he can stay on the park long enough to allow his strengths to shine, then the next step will be honing his all-round forward craft, before exploring the versatility that his traits should allow for. In particular, working on stoppage craft as a midfielder, competing, and getting his hands on the ball more will compound Moir's production outside of leading, marking, and scoring as a forward.

Further proving that notion is how he was drowned out as a marking option during AFL Academy duties. Battling for exposure among the wealth of high-flyers in the side, Moir's deficiencies were exposed in the sense he failed to showcase any significant defensive application, get dangerous at ground level, or impact beyond the forward 50 arc.

He’s like Pendles, a former basketballer. Heard his name mentioned.

In relation to Richmond or just in general?

I’d be happy to take him with our 3rd round pick if we still have it, maybe even our second round depending on who’s available at the pick and how much it slides down the draft order

Would be pick 25, I think, before all the Father Son and Academy matching which there could be as many as 7 in the first round, maybe more, so our first pick will be early to mid 30s
The thing is, everyone knows where these picks are going, except for the norf welfare beggars priority pick so you can plan around it.
Gold Coast three academy picks and dogs father son bid on Croft.
so you know exactly where these players are going.

There is at least one more with the Hawks Father (Luke) Son Will McCabe

Interestingly Croft still has not nominated the Bulldogs ... with all their key position players I can understand he might not think he is a chance of a game.

Potentially around 30. So yeah. Not the best hand. But I sort of trust our recruiters more with later picks than early ones lol.

Yeah we seem to pick the eyes out of the draft after the first round plus the rookies. Probably why were so comfortable trading our first round picks

The word is out that the Senior Coach needs to have a win now plan, so what type of plan do you think the new coach will have for the National Draft.

Firstly though, so proud of everyone that we have got to the last game of the season and haven't started crapping on about the Draft
Game Show Applause GIF by ABC Network

But if we leave it any longer people are going to start realising it is because we are still traumatised by the fact that GWS have our Top10 pick and we want to pretend that it doesn't hurt.

Now relax, there is good news. I just have to get through a whole lot of stuff that's going to Trigger hostile feelings to get there.

Good, the only KPF that will be taken in the first round is an Academy player so we weren't getting them anyway

Trigger ...Dimma is and Walter is going to be the next Wayne Carey.

Good, the only other key forward that will go in the first round will be Nate Caddy and he isn't even as tall as Bauer, so really what's the point.

Trigger .... if Dimma hadn't been so keen to move him on Josh Caddy would have kicked 59 goals this year when Lynch went down

So let's stop the crapping on, so we can get on with telling each other who our Second Round Pick should be.

For me it should be Lloyd, (the bloke we will probably pass on with our Second Round pick to take the next Tom Brown - not that there is anything wrong with Tom) ...

Luke Lloyd

Sandringham Dragons

Forward, 193cm
U18 National Championships Averages:
N/A

A late-season draft bolter, Lloyd missed selection for Vic Metro in the under-18 national championships after being sidelined for the early rounds of the Coates Talent League season with a quad injury that he suffered late in pre-season. However, he has drawn the attention of clubs since kicking 19 goals in a game for school team De La Salle in May, which followed a 14-goal haul in a preliminary final as a 16-year-old last year. A third-tall type of forward who also has the ability to play down back, Lloyd possesses an impressive set of hands in the air and works hard up the ground as a lead-up half-forward who links the play. When he does take a grab inside-50 he makes the most of his opportunity in front of goal more often than not. The Dragons rate Lloyd as one of the most naturally talented players on their list this year.

Probably should add Poll with type of player we should take, but like ...
Peace Out Reaction GIF

Luke Lloyd reads alright in terms of profile
