The reason there has to be a community benefit is because the Crows want to be gifted the land to build their site on. That only happens if people in the area get a benefit from it, otherwise you're taking public land and taking it away from the very public it's supposed to belong to.

Now if they go out and buy their block of land to develop a site on, that's a completely different thing, but that isn't going to happen.
Ok that makes sense......I didn't see the forest for the trees.

That looks to be on a way bigger piece of land than our options.
Looks can be be deceiving, but the main oval looks like the old SCG, the 50M arc is meeting the centre square.

The second oval is definitely nowhere near full size. I'd back Ned and Rowie to get the distance from inside the centre square!

I’m talking the overall complex, buildings and carpark.

What about the site of the Multifunction Polis? Or Koutsantonis's dodgy deal Gillman site?

With South Road now non stop high speed all the way to those areas, distance from the CBD is no longer a tyranny.

Build two ovals, one identical in dimensions to AO, the other identical in to the MCG the site of future flag glory!
Might be expensive to buy and bulldoze Mawson Lakes

100% this.

What is the insistence on benefitting the community? The club is going to pay millions so it can develop a suitable ground and establish a club HQ (wherever that may be).....why can't it be for the exclusive use of the AFC??

Its not as if we haven't contributed back to the SANFL (how much exactly have we put back since 1991)?

Does WCE allow people to walk their dogs at Lathlain? Is Ghosh's paddock (Collingwood training ground) shared with 'the community? Alberton?
Goschs paddock (which is the Dees' training ground) is publically accessible when they aren't using it.

On Pixel 5 using BigFooty.com mobile app

I think a lot of the grounds are public use when not in use, I know I've walked across a couple of the grounds that are near the MCG on the way to transport, and the Kangaroos just have a waist high fense, think there are gates and you can go have a kick or whatever when they aren't using it.

Assume it's similar for most grounds?

I guess the thing we need to look at it with a lot of clubs building new facilities, what is the trend going forward.

Isn't the Brompton review due this week?
Do you expect the government to actually do anything or just tick a box that they created to win votes? Honestly this 'review' was pure politics, and I'm not saying this as a bitter Liberal as I voted Labor

It's the end of July. Are we expecting some sort of press release either 5pm this evening or tomorrow?

Nope. Will be buried at the bottom of some random Adelaide Now article. Just another box ticking exercise.

Wonder how far off we are in regards to an announcement re. Thebarton.

i don't think it'll be buried. Pecs promised a review, they've written the cheque to AECOM and a review we'll get. There wasn't a promise to overturn, but he'd probably prefer that because it would imply political interference in RSA processes or incompetence had RSA deviated too far from their remit. I do t think he can lose, he either delivers on a promise or gets to score political points. And given he lives a stones throw away, I think he'd love to get the ammunition to be able to overturn this.

I think Malinauskas is waiting to hear what John Setka thinks before deciding to release the report.

There’s an angle I hadn’t thought of. But I doubt Setka is interested in protecting the current preferred tenderer. He’s more about ensuring that the government doesn’t forget his industry when it comes to spending. “How many more ****ing distilleries and ****ing glamping ****ibg tents does your ****ing state need campaigner”.

Graeme Goodings on 5AA this morning:

Govt has the report and we’ve heard nothing. When we asked Mal he said he’d let us know when he has something to say.

Even then it looks like it would go to tender and that’s another 6-9 months process.

Thebby has lots of appeal and they are still progressing down that path. Bigger, talk of AO and MCG sized ovals. I don’t know enough about the site but I didn’t think it was bigger enough for this?

But it looks like Thebby

Yes, Graeme sounded very positive and enthusiastic about Thebarton, even saying there would be room for an Adelaide Oval shaped oval, and an MCG oval, plus a soccer field. I had no idea it was big enough for that sort of development.

I think with Thebarton, expect more than we thought on previous pages maybe.

I don't think it will be a simple realign the oval, keep the old stands stuff we were talking about, the whole thing would surely go?

Richmond are or are planning to demolish their Punt Road, Jack Dyer Stand built in 1914... If they can do that, we're not going to be concerned about preserving the heritage of something that is of no relevance to us.

If they want us, we'd push our weight around and get what we want. Bowls? Move it, community centre, gone (or incorporated for funding)

If we're going to keep up or improve on the other developments in planning or under construction around the competition I'd expect something pretty impressive on the site.
