If Brompton doesn't work out and the SANFL proves to be a stumbing block at Thebarton...

Adelaide Uni's Waite Oval at Urrbrae where their Rugby Club is. Could that be a location?

It would fit just the one oval, but could also fit a Rugby pitch, similar to how Alberton will have a soccer pitch adjoining their facility. Still enough room on the current grassed area for all the needs and car parks an AFL club would want. Wouldn't need to touch the "Waite Arboretum".

The location is a bit closer to Adelaide Oval than both Football Park and Alberton Oval and about half the distance from the CBD.

It's in the polar opposite location of where Port Adelaide is.

If the SANFL do up Thebarton, you'd have three really good 2nd Tier footy venues in different areas of Adelaide plus Adelaide Oval.

We will still be discussing options in 5 years time. Not sure there's anyone at the AFC capable of putting together a deal this big.

Site looks great

The key however:

There is a great deal of work still to be done. We are continuing to negotiate lease terms and conditions with the City of West Torrens and SANFL, with the latter currently having a footprint at the site. We will also be seeking State Government funding support to enable the project to proceed and we appreciate the open and constructive discussions to date.

Is the SANFL moving to West Lakes just a rumour? Half (at least) of their admin is based at Adelaide Oval

MCG oval sounds great. Train for when it actually matters

Second oval can be used for parking looking at the mock up. AFLW games there, SANFL (or VFL) and AFL preseason games there in the future.

The indoor artificial grass facility almost twice as big as the current one is interesting.

I thought they had moved gym equipment into the current one and it doesn't really get used much for ball training anyway.

Seems like a reasonable plan at this stage.
However I'd have preferred the announcement to have included that we have already made all negotiations with the SANFL and the local council. Not a fan of 'this is where we are going, now to do the negotiations'.
That does seem odd, if anything it strengthens the SANFLs hand, "hey you made an announcement, ou have to follow through, now this is what we want"

I would hope that it's just the wording and that everything has actually been discussed and agreed to already.
Going to look absolutely stupid if, after all this time, we come out with Thebarton as our desired location, only to then pull out and have to start again because we couldn't complete the negotiations.
