Olsen on 5AA this morning. It’s a small second oval until 2032 or whenever and then it will become a Docklands sized oval.

There will be a skate park though…
Well that’s a massive fail on the club and trying to pull the wool over our eyes

Look not having an MCG sized second oval (which I would’ve been livid about a couple of months back) is unfortunately a concession we have to concede.
It gives those residents opposing the development the western side of Kings Reserve which is what they wanted and us our full second oval post-2032 albeit Docklands sized rather than MCG sized. A second oval is better than no second oval.

I'd be building this smaller temporary oval before touching the Thebarton site just to make sure they're not out there looking for rare insects and significant shrubs or whatever else could stop it from happening.

Less ideal but could we then partner up with a school or university or someone with an oval elsewhere and have them configure it as that MCG sized oval for the occasional training session, or is this already in place?

I'm actually not that worried about the MCG sized oval for Grand Final day the more I think about it, like what percent of our disadvantage is field size and what is unfamiliar surrounds in the lead up, travelling early, having 70% of the crowd and home state umpiring against you the problem. You can replicate the size but you can't replicate the feeling with the massive stands around you.

I don't get what the point of even having a second oval is if it's not MCG sized

I honestly think some of it is just car parking should it be needed for AFLW matches or club events like a family day or to have a backup for the main oval should there be too much use or whatever.

No, the SANFL men's team won't be playing there. Part of our deal for admission into the comp was we would be only playing "away" games.
I would fully expect both their AFLW and Reserves team to hosting home games at Thebby, I have no problem with it at all, I’m sure the contract with the SANFL can be changed easily.

Given several clubs are already offloading the second of their Crows games (either to Adelaide Oval or country areas), I can see little to no objection to us playing SANFL games at Thebby when it's done.

Overtime, I reckon you could re-negotiate to extend by 5m. Not saying they will, but you could. Just need to get it over the line for now.

Docklands 170 by 140 m
MCG 171x146 m

Not really that much different ... and ours will have to have an east-west orientation so it's almost an MCG clone.

Maybe they just don't want to make it sound like an MCG clone for some reason - maybe so the protestors can protest about us having an MCG sized oval :grinning:.

I’m happy to do the marking out.
What 5m?
