Re: New coach rumours

Dean Wallis doesnt sound too bad, i know the club and the players have a respect for him similar to that of Hirdy's because of his history and what he has been through. If he has the coaching mind aswell then he would be a fantastic choice.

My interest in football would end if Wallis became senior coach.

Re: New coach rumours

The interesting thing is sportsbet is betting against McKenna getting a senior position.

Back Mckenna for all of Melbourne, Carlton and Essendon and you win if he gets one.

Would have thought a reasonable punt.

Go for mckenna @ Essendon

This guy was an awesome unrelenting defender who played under malthouse and with and under worsfold and has had a great apprenteship...This huy will bring direction and hardness back to essendon which is what we need...bring him on...sign him now b4 others get the chance:thumbsu:

If he gets the gig at the Bombers, it will be a very bad move from a professional club. His tyres have been grossly over inflated by the media.

Re: Go for mckenna @ Essendon

I think it will probably come down to McKenna and Daniher in the final stages. I'm hoping it will be McKenna because he has been part of such a successful club like the Eagles, and would I like to see him bring those methods to Essendon.

Re: Go for mckenna @ Essendon

Wish I knew what all the candidates gameplans and plans for the future were

yeah would be good to know...i have a fair idea about mckenna thou...have a look at the coaches and mentors he had had...pretty impressive...we have a great forward line but we struggle down back and midfield...i think down back more....look what he,s done with collingwoods back line....they have been good ...except last night

Re: Go for mckenna @ Essendon

Read a post somewhere that McKenna coached in the WAFL and was not very good. I assume it was before he was an AFL assistant. Does anyone have any info on that.

Re: Go for mckenna @ Essendon

Unless you are involved in a club, or know people who are (I'm not saying some of you don't) it's difficult to to really know how any assistant would go on the big stage, although an apprenticeship like McKenna's doesn't hurt.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Was looking at some coaching stats. If we get Daniher and sign him for 3 years and don't win a premiership in that time, Neale will be 2nd only to John Northey for most games coached without a premiership (315 to 289, assuming we don't play finals).

But Eade and Wallace are not far behind. By the end of 2009, Wallace will be equal with Fitzroy/Essendon coach Bill Stephen on 258 games, the most for a coach to never even make a grand final.

But you can't be sure, I hope the club doesn't take that risk, say no to Mc Kenna.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Brayshaw's "mail" on MMM not long ago was that Harvey and Bomber have both told Essendon they want nothing to do with it unless Peter Jackson goes.

Make of that what you will.

Get rid of PJ then. Everyone time to get behind saveessendon:cool:.

I like Harvey, would love him to come back to the dons. Seems unlikely though.

Would not surprise me at all.

Great businessman, but stay out of the footy stuff PJ.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

News tonight said Essendon interviews Mark Harvey and he is on a shortlist of 3. I want to get him down to Windy Hill badly myself, let's hope he wants the job because if he does want it he will get it.

Was Peter Jackson the great business man who orchestrated the Mark Mercuri contract?
Was Peter Jackson the great businessman who was pretty instrumental in letting the salary cap destroy the fabric of the club after 2001.
Sorry but I reckon PJ has got away with some pretty big blunders.
Gary ODonnell in his role next year?

I thought I clearly made a distinction between business activities and football activities.

The two examples you provided are both football activities, practices I believe Jackson should not be a part of.
