Re: Go for mckenna @ Essendon

This guy was an awesome unrelenting defender who played under malthouse and with and under worsfold and has had a great apprenteship...This huy will bring direction and hardness back to essendon which is what we need...bring him on...sign him now b4 others get the chance:thumbsu:

Just to buy into the Guy McKenna deal....I don't rate him at all. Very quietly spoken...I can't see any hardness coming into your team with him in charge. Coached a Claremont side out of the finals...heard several of his 1/4 & 3/4 time speeches when Claremont was getting flogged. Was all pretty pansy stuff with all that new positive reinforcement crap. Assistant @ Wce when they were carp, assistant @ Collingwood when they were carp...only had 1/2 decent seasons this year & last.

IMO get Hardwick or Neale Daniher

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

my main criterion is that i would like someone who has been closely involved with an AFL premiership winning team - whether it be as a player, coach or assistant coach - and therefore knows firsthand what it takes to win a flag. for this reason i am interested in mckenna and have my doubts about bond and daniher.

the more i think about hardwick the more happy i would be if he were appointed. two flags as a player and an assistant a club that has successfully rebuilt a list and may even win the cup this year. does anyone know if he is interested or in the mix?

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Speaking to a mate of mine who is friendly with a bloke who does a lot of the Collingwood forwardline work, he said McKenna is very very good and does a lot of good work at the pies so thats some positive news for Guy.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Harvey would be the #1 option IMO now Voss has pulled out. Daniher has had his chance and has proven he isn't up to it. If Harvs stays out West we don't want a guy who has already run a race or we may as well of kept Sheeds as he's definitely got more credentials than any other tried coach. We need a fresh face perhaps a Ratten or Longmire.

Mark Thompson to coach us?

Bomber Thompson has said he wont sign another deal till after the finals. IMO if Geelong choke & fail to make the Grand Final or make the GF & lose he will depart Skilled Stadium! He couldnt do any more at Geelong if that happens, a return to Windy Hill for Bomber as our new coach??? Thoughts.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Mark Thompson and Mark Williams have been are reported at the top of the clubs wish list.

Looks like we could have to wait until after the finals before making a move on any coach.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

This wont matter having to wait until the end of september. Melbourne wont beat us to anyone we want, Carlton want ratten and Freo want harvey. Leaves it all open as to if we can poach someone. Williams has a very tight deal at Port so wont be going anywhere.

Choices now are

Thompson
Hardwick
McKenna (the one I want)
Sumich
Daniher (failed at demons so dont need)

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Mark Williams' contract says that they can't sack him, and he can't leave them during anytime, and he's signed for 3 years.

I also believe if he were to coach somewhere else it would only be Collingwood.

I dunno why ur club is still pursuing him despite his contract.

Coaches contracts are not all that valuable to be honest.

Do you think that a club would want to keep a coach that told them he wants to coach elsewhere?

We are interested in him because he is a good coach, who has coached his team to success and don't forget he did an apprenticeship at Essendon

Rumour about a replacement coach!!

I doubt this will happen, as I haven't even heard of the bloke and was pretty disappointed to hear it. But apparently we are looking at the assistant coach of the North Ballarat Roosters, Angelo Di Stefano as a possible coach in season 2008. I think he is going to be interviewed next week, expect something in the news over the weekend.
Thoughts??

Re: Rumour about a replacement coach!!

Hutchy said on TFS that Mark Williams and Port were both upset about Horsburgh saying something about a loophole in Choco's contract, also that the minor chance of getting him has now been thrown out the window.

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Like the sound of Damien Hardwick. Met him at Hirdy's farewell - very impressive!

Re: New Coach Rumours and Suggestions

Was listening to Swan on MMM before the game, and it got me thinking - do we have a committee (football) of any sort given this job (finding a coach) at all? I know the board has outsourced a company initially, but this outside company surely is just sorting the junk from the eventual shortlist?

Swan was saying that whatever the Committee puts to the board, they will accept (hence "giving away" Ratten as the coach) and they made a good point - how can a board, mostly there due to business accumen, make a call one way or another on a coach - what football knowledge do they have? They have to go with the football expertise they have put in place to find a coach - such a highly specialised position.

As far as I know, our board has outsourced (what an outsourced company can do I'll never know, but thats another story) will present a shortlist to the board, who will then take it from there. Are we in a position, structurally, to make this transition?

Listening to Swan, who seems to be one of the best at running a footy club, he seems to be building Carlton to a place like Collingwood, with a very solid off field football base. Just wondering where we sat in this regard?
