This was used as a compromise by supporters when the club was abscessed with using Paddlepop, now that's gone no need to change and this shouldn't even be discussed!!!!

i don't think a league wide round has been announced yet but i could be wrong. i know teams have been doing their own retro round for a while now

I think geelong started it annually about 4 years ago then freo followed 2 years ago

Of course they would. The shading, the changing of the lines and the adding of a maroon border is instantly noticed. Totally unnecessary changes. Change for changes sake.

Well the maroon border in this design is irrelevant, if it were on their home kit it would just be surrounded by maroon anyway. As for the shading, could take it or leave it. I don’t think it’s that bad of a proposal at all, but yeah you have a point, there’s nothing unbearably tired about the OG lion, in my opinion.

Well the maroon border in this design is irrelevant, if it were on their home kit it would just be surrounded by maroon anyway.

It's not just used on a maroon background though. So a maroon border would look ordinary against a red or blue background.

I don’t think it’s that bad of a proposal at all, but yeah you have a point, there’s nothing unbearably tired about the OG lion, in my opinion.

The traditional lion - as currently drawn - should not be changed in any way.

Another retro round themed jumper for the Dogs:

They finally listened and put in the 44-45 navy jumper that has been requested for years. It's unlikely to win but even if it doesn't let's hope they do the 80th anniversary for it next year.

The 75-96 jumper will almost certainly win, not sure why people are so attached to that when it represents arguably our least successful era.

On a slightly different topic, I've confirmed with the club that indeed the 2023 long sleeves will include the hoops.

Nah, too drastic of a change. I think Scorch's update from 2015 is absolute perfection, to the point where genuinely hardly anyone would notice, while also looking vastly better tbh.

This is the one right here. Also lol at thinking the layperson would notice a change. Most people couldn’t even tell you that the Pepsi logo changed about 13 years ago. 95% of people are not in tune with branding and anyone here who thinks otherwise is overestimating them significantly

I for one don't want it "modernised", in any way shape or form. The current design is perfect.

See Blues, Dogs and Eagles for confirmation that tradition has value and builds engagement.

The Roys links with Brisbane are complex (some say too dilute, others say they smother the Bears history...but I digress) but there's something in the logo being enduring, 'unclean lines' warts and all.

I think I recall him saying at the time that it was his interpretation of what the Lion was probably intended to look like, so I imagine the bumps are probably meant to give off that sort of frizzle effect

I don’t mind the frizz but I think the face needs work. The eyes, nose and mouth all look a bit dopey. It needs to look closer to the Costa Lion head IMO.
