How does our academy work? We have rights to these players but just have to match them with points if another team bids? That highlight package looks great
Correct just points.
Newchurch isn't predicted to go top 30 so shouldn't be an issue. If he dominates U18 games that do end up happening that may become problematic

I hope so because the wraps from up North are big.
Be good to get an elite tall forward through this system.
Special tall forwards are hard to come by though and much harder for them to impact games than ever before.
Watching this season the AFL needs to do something it's hard to watch the supposedly great KPFs struggle so much.

Yeah I was just saying in another thread we seem to have moved to an era of the medium forward. 180-188, skilled at finding some space and reading the flight and drop of the ball.

Hopefully those under 18 games don’t end up happening then. Looks like a freak.
You're out of luck unless there's a major Covid outbreak in SA the next 24 hours, Tariek struts his stuff at Prospect Oval at 2.40PM Sunday.

Btw. Meaning to ask!
What do you think about Bowey from the dragons? My cricket mate‘s son is best friends with him.
One of the very best smalls in this draft, starred in the U17 All Stars game last year, very quick, great acceleration, 1st class agility and surprisingly good aerially for his size. Tends to be an outside player probably more due to his size than anything so probably more a small pressure forward/small pressure defender at AFL level. Good value if a club needs that type late 2nd-3rd round would be my best guess to his draft range.

Not a fan personally. The game is built on tall forwards and people come to watch Buddy Franklin, Wayne Carey, Jono Brown, Matthew Pavlich, Josh Kennedy, Nick Riewoldt types. It's what makes our game so unique. Watching small blokes crumb and snap reminds me more of soccer players shooting for the corner post due to the low angle more than AFL.

What have you heard. Just going by his photos he doesn't look like a freak athlete.
I can only go on what one of my old mates from the district that has seen him play says and he reckon he moves really well for a tall gangly kid, exceptional overhead mark and a decent boot on him. Hopefully he'll get elevated to the Roosters U18 for some games so we can get a look at him ourselves unless anyone on here gets along to some U16 games which I don't think get video coverage. I don't know if there's any plans for the U16 Nationals this year? Generally a good sign for future reference when indigenous lads get identified talent wise to be selected for the "Flying Boomerangs" program. 3 Port Augusta lads made it into the program last year Isaac Keeler, Brandon Martin and Callan McKenzie. A lot of the current indigenous players in the AFL came through the Flying Boomerang program.

Not doubting you mate just just visually if he is in our academy we need to be prioritising getting him to focus on gym work over next 24 months otherwise I suspect he might find the transition to AFL life difficult.
Strong overhead good height, agile and decent leg is plenty to work with.
Would be good to watch some U18 with him.
From memory I think U16 may be canned at national level but may be wrong.

I just looked back at that list you put up last night, the other 2 Pt.Augusta lads in the Flying Boomerang squad are on that list too. I'll have to see if he knows much about them though he's a South Augusta man where Isaac played so I'm guessing they played for one of the other Pt Augusta teams. Tariek I'm pretty sure played for West Augusta.

Couple of familiar names there too Alwyn Davey and Jack Peris, Nova's son she had with that Aussie Olympic sprinter Daniel Batman and Alwyn's son.

Yes with a 25% discount i think. Between all the academy kids that look good and maybe Edwards it shows why we were keen to trade some players for picks so we have enough points to match bids but also make other picks on the draft imo. Caused pain this year but might work out in the long run.

do we still need to have as many spots available as picks that can be used. Going to be a hell of a clean out if we’re going to be using more picks than players acquired.
