According to Mernda sponsor, he isn't playing for Mernda. It would be great to see such a talented player go down a couple of divisions to help develop some kids. Still has plenty to give at that standard.

Swoopingtime why would he bother. Shane had been a champion of the league and going back to a division 3 club that hasn’t played finals for nearly 10 years, can’t see it happening.
If he does and it helps Mernda, what happens on the off chance they are successful, would he play 2024 in division 2? Better to get games into the younger players, otherwise you run the risk of losing those younger players to other clubs.
Shane is a legend of the league, if he is retiring I hope all NFNL followers who can get to his last game for Nth Heidelberg get to the game and send him off with the respect and recognition he deserves

There were a few years there where Shane was effectively unstoppable. Played in some very ordinary sides yet still kicked bags of 7,8,9 against Heidelberg and Bundoora in their prime. Anyone that witnessed the day he kicked 10 in a rep game against the EDFL will never forget it. Would love to know his total goal tally if someone has it.

If he is going to Mernda then just declare he is going to Mernda and not bother with the retirement party. LolSwoopingtime why would he bother. Don' think it would be embarrasing, it's just the right thing to do as a club what NH have done, give a proper send off to one of the comps greatest ever. Would be ordinary if there wasn't a big celebration IMO

He absolutely deserves a send off and credit to NH. It just seems unusual to have a retirement party only to turn up at another club weeks later.

Best ive seen in the league, with a good gap to second.
All hypothetical but doubt he plays at Mernda (this year anyway). Can only assume he is pulling the pin cos his body can no longer do what the head wants, if that's the case and still wants to have a kick you'd hope he would do that in the 2s and help some developing players rather than switch clubs.
Concur with others, as good a DVFL/NFNL player as I have seen. Done things on field that very few, if any, are capable. Enjoy retirement

A big gap to second? I don't think so. There would be a group of 10-15 players that could lay claim to the best the league had seen and to be honest there shouldn't be many arguments no matter who your choice is.
Only picked the one winner for the round being Bundoora.
Winner of the round: Tough one as all of Hurstbridge, Macleod, West Preston and Monty can make claims to be winner of the round. Going with Monty who stopped the Heidelberg winning sequence, ironically last time the Tigers lost was in same round against same opponent. Pat Fitzgerald with 7 majors being the match winner with Wale-Buxton named best for Monty
Loser of the round: Nth Heidelberg slump to 0-3, I like many thought they would open their account last Sat but the Bridges had other ideas. Trailing my 2 points at half time and 8 goal to 6 second half meant the doggies slip to 0-3. If they want to play finals they have a must win game this week against Macleod back at Shelley Reserve

Great player and everyone has their own opinion, but not even in my top 5. Played quite a bit of Div2 footy and kicked bags against some pretty ordinary teams. No doubt he also performed against some of the best in Div1 as well. At the end of the day a great career and nice bag of tricks. Great to even be thought of in that way as one of the best.
