Maybe surprising is the word I'm looking for, didn't realise he was back there, and previous posters have alluded to some involvement with exit of previous coach and some players? he's been a great player for Lower, will bring plenty of experience to a young side, could give them the edge.
He played a few weeks ago, left StKilda city during the exodus

ELT vs WAT - Watsonia flying, Eltham disappointed after being beaten. Eltham to bounce back but Watsonia would be looking to upset Eltham 29

EPP vs LP - Huge game with huge ramifications. Eppings form has been better overall. Epping at home 12 points

TT vs PH - both equally disappointing. PH 12

SM vs NP - SM basically thrown their season away after the hot start. Will look to get back on track here 16

SM vs DC - Match of the round. Defence Vs Offence. Can see SM really pushing DC. SM 2 points

Round 16 and some massive games this week

Eltham (2nd) vs Watsonia (4th) The Panthers will look to bounce back after last weeks loss but will have a fight on their hands against an inform Watsonia side. Goodwin and McCormick are both big outs for the panthers while the Saints have had to make 7 changes from last weeks game. Watsonia still not certain of playing finals and with a tough last 3 weeks with Eltham, Northcote Park and Diamond Creek they would love to spring the upset here. They will push Eltham all the way but at home Eltham by 19 points

Epping (10th) vs Lower Plenty (9th) Well at 5pm tomorrow night both sides will basically know their fate for season 2024. Epping at still missing the Hollow brothers who are massive outs for them. Their form overall has been slightly better than Lower Plenty’s however I give the Bears a big chance of getting win number 2 and surviving in division 2. Imagine if it’s a draw, then it would most likely come down to percentage to see who is relegated and at the moment it in favour of Lower by 1.76%. At home going to go with Epping by 7 points.

Thomastown (7th) vs Panton Hill (8th) Both teams have been very disappointing in 2023 but unbelievably Thomostown are still a slight chance of playing finals. Lopiccolo is back for the Bears and with Capeci, Leonardis and Tang will be too good for the redbacks. As I type this though, wouldn’t be surprised if the redbacks win by 50 points either, such is the unpredictable nature of these two teams. Thomastown by 17 points

Sth Morang (6th) vs Northcote Park (5th) At the half way mark of the season the Lions were sitting in 3rd spot however their form has dropped away markedly in 2nd half of the year, they do however still control their own destiny and will look to jump a game clear of tomorrow opponent if they can get the win. For the cougars they get Clark back this week who is a quality player but not sure they will kick enough goals for a winning score. At home Sth Morang to jump back into the top 5. Lions by 15 points

St Marys (3rd) vs Diamond Creek (1st) The Burra can sniff their first senior Division 2 finals series however they job isn’t fully done as yet. They kicked 21 goals last week and now come up against the best defence in the competition. Antypas (40 goals) and Cictta (29 goals not playing tomorrow) have taken a lot of pressure of Dean who has been their primary avenue to goal in recent years. For the Creekers they were terrific last week in toppling Eltham, do they suffer a bit of a letdown after such a big game last week. I give St Marys a chance for the upset but can’t go past Diamond Creek who have been terrific all year. Diamond Creek by 18 points

Enjoy the footy

Good win by the bears. All but safe, only danger is Epping vs PH but I think % is to much now.

What a diaster with 1 and 2nd beating 3rd and 4th by100 points. Save some time and just play the GF next week.
Percentage should be
LP 51.12
Epping 46.60

Lower still have some work to do with Eltham away and Sth Morang home, so protecting percentage will be important.

Epping with St Mary’s away and Panton Hill away.

I’d imaging Epping would be throwing everything bar the kitchen sink into that last round, so it may still provide a twist.

4 out of 5 missing on Epping

Final ladder predictions

St Marys: Epping and Thomastown. Win both finish 3rd on 48 points

Sth Morang: Panton Hill and Lower Plenty. Win both finish on 44 points

Watsonia: Northcote Park and Diamond Creek. Lose both finish on 32 points. Round 17 elimination final Vs Northcote Park

Northcote Park: Watsonia and Eltham, beat Watsonia, lose to Eltham. Finish on 36 points

Thomastown: Diamond Creek and St Marys. Lost both finish on 30 points

Ladder
1. Diamond Creek
2. Eltham
3. St Marys
4. Sth Morang
5. Northcote Park
6. Watsonia
7. Thomastown

Round 17 tips

Watsonia (6th) vs Northcote Park (5th). An early elimination final between 2 clubs who are striving to play finals. Both are coming off disappointing losses by 98 and 15 points respectively to teams aboive them on the ladder. Last time it was Northcote Park with a 4 point victory, can the Saints reverse this result at Binnak park, I think they can. Watsonia by 7 points

Diamond Creek (1st) vs Thomastown (7th) The creekers probably had their most impressive win last week demolishing 3rd placed St Marys by 107 points. It was a complete game from both an offensive point (14 different goal kickers) and defensively keeping St Marys to 39 points in total. For Thomastown they got an important 4 points over Panton Hill to keep their slim finals chances alive. They need to cause the upset to stay alive but at home Diamond creek will be too good. Diamond Creek by 31 points

Eltham (2nd) vs Lower Plenty (9th). The panthers rediscovered their offensive game last week in smashing Watsonia by 98 points. It was only the second time this season they had kicked more than 100 point, only other time was back in round 2 against St Marys when they kicked 22-14-146. For Lower Plenty one of their most important wins in their clubs history when they beat Epping to move a game and % away from last and relegation to division 3. Tougher tomorrow and they won’t be able to get 2 wins in a row. Eltham by 78 points

Sth Morang (4th) vs Panton Hill (8th) Massive win for the Lions which call but secured their finals spot in their first year back in division 2. They will miss Potter and Stefanile tomorrow but will have too much firepower for a disappointing Panton Hill, whose slim finals chances were extinguished by Thomastown last week. Sth Morang by 19 points

St Marys (3rd) vs Epping (10th) Two sides that would be very disappointed with last weeks results. For the burra, they failed a big test with a 107 defeat to Diamond Creek. They can bounce back though and secure a first finals appearance and a double chance with a win tomorrow. For Epping, it looks a lot like they will be in division 3 in 2024 after again having a half time lead but not being able to replicate in 2nd half. St Marys east by 83 points

Enjoy the footy

WAT vs NP - Watsonia to bounce back 24

DC vs TT - DC far too good 70

ELT vs LP - LP got close last time but expect eltham to put them away here. LP need to protect their percentage 60 Eltham

PH vs SM - PH will sneak a win at home here 12

ST vs EPP - Pingers will need a win last round as I expect SM to bounce back strongly here 59

DC V TT - DC at home by a bit here. 50+, end thomastowns slim slim finals chances

ELT V LP - ELT 90+

SM V PH - Tight one this. South Morang should win at home but going for the upset. Panton by 6 points

WAT V NP - Game of the round , winner plays finals just about losers chance are nearly all but gone. Backing Watsonia here at home by 35 and to play finals.

STM V EPP - Dissapointing last week for Epping.. Can’t see them getting close to the burra here. STM by 60

Watched Watsonia vs Northcote yesterday and it must be worrying times for Northcote. Not sure anyone expected them to be top 2 but to miss finals first year down in Div 2 is a big fall for a once strong Div 1 club. They have no depth with their twos having forfeited a couple of games and being pretty much uncompetitive all season, no under 19’s and the oldest Junior side affiliated with them at Northcote will be under 16’s next year. Speaking to a ex player now on the committee he said financially and off field the club is fine but with salary cap points system and being in Div 2 recruiting quality players isn’t as easy as it once was.

I agree, I think they are in massive trouble. Darebin Girls potentially want their ground and I think in that local community they will get the support!

The trials & tribulations residing in an inner city area.

Once was an advantage for NP with their connection with local business & country recruits moving to town. They did it as good as anyone but has dried up.

Lack of support & volunteers a bi-product of the above to contend with.

You’d think being surrounded by non paying VAFA clubs and suburbs with young people it wouldn’t be that hard finding players?

Inner burbs has changed with plenty of hairy arm pits her/she's out there & those non-paying VAFA clubs you mention are very active in the recruiting stakes with their non-cash fringe benefits, just as effective as the coin.

Epping have jumped lower on percentage so relegation battle is still on. They’d have to be a chance to beat PH. PH would probably be happy to see Lower to drop down and grab a few more of their players.
I can confirm the league will be paying serious attention to to PH v Epping game to insure everything is a love board.

Apart from usual officialdom, there will be observers in attendance to keep an eye and ear on things, as well as any unusual happenings to make sure that game is played on merit.

Fines, void result, loss of points, banning of officials, legal consequences all on the table if anything untoward occurs and is proven.

Should be interesting😉
