I'm pretty sure in my time on here I have shown my ability to accurately appraise the abilities of many players from different clubs with letting the bias of my own team cloud my judgement.
Exactly. You let the bias of your own team cloud your judgement. I'm glad you specified that in your response because it confirms a lot

Only a Collingwood supporter like yourself would attempt to peddle embarrassing diatribe like "this le handball is one of the most iconic grand final deciding moments evar!"
I actually didn't say that.

I said 'The Daicos handball is the most iconic handball in Grand Final history'.

If you dont agree, name a more iconic handball in a Grand Final?

Go.

Or, he is objective enough to appreciate great football from opposing teams.
Despite popular moronic opinion, it is actually possible to do just that. Great skills on show from anyone are worth celebrating whether they play for your favourite team or that of your most loathed or anything in between.

Go.
Neither decided the game, but a couple of memorable ones this century involved Voss.

In the third quarter against Essendon 2001, he gets in and under to dish out to Lappin who snaps a goal that really signified Brisbane starting to overwhelm their opposition (premiership quarter burst).

Then in 2002, riding the bump from Burns and then recovering to handball to Black who goals. Iconic.

Neither came right at the end of the match to decide the result though.

Yep, you are 100% a Collingwood customer posing as a "Geelong fan".
Guilty. For some reason as a Pies fan I adored Ablett kicking that match winning goal in the 2007 prelim.

As a Cats fan, two of the more memorable finals passages this century came against my own team. Davis in 2005 and Dew in 2008. It happens.

The moments that actually decide a final/grand final are up at the top of the tree though. So while Petracca dominating Bulldogs in 2021, Dangerfield to the Swans in 2022 and Martin to Geelong in 2020 were all great showcases - they were a part of team domination. In 2022 for the whole game. In 2021 the second half. In 2020 the last two quarters and a bit. Those Melbourne, Geelong and Richmond sides were mauling the other team when the whips were cracking.

Indeed, having one player dominate a side and drive his team towards the win truly pales in comparison to a single handball. Clearly one singular handball provides a far greater reflection of one's legacy and influence on a match than anything else because like... um... it was a close game! and possibly decided the match or something!... and for some reason this handball is somehow scored more premiership-deciding points than De Goey kicking a goal from 60m out to put his side back in front.

Change your team to Collingwood mate. You're the same as that Fadge guy.
They weren't close games. One half doesn't make a game. Of course those players statuses were still raised by pummeling the opposition but they were hardly solo efforts.

The point in question was merely whether the Daicos handball passage was an iconic grand final moment. Yes, and it would've been if Markov made the handball to WHE who goals. It was a great way to finish an excellent grand final performance for Daicos, which is very impressive at his age.

I fully believe that if Daicos was missing, Collingwood would've lost the PF. And then the same for the GF. The margins were that tight and Collingwood were in a slump when he was missing. So he was undoubtedly a very important factor in a premiership in just his second season.

Take the emotions and saltiness out of it, and these are the facts.

FACTS! :fire:

Somebody pass the memo to Dusty. It wasn't enough for him to just have three outstanding Grand Final performances + three norm smith medals. What he really needed was to make a handball in a tight game; that is how you truly reach the top of the "tree".
There's another thread about Martin, go post about him in there.

This thread is used to discuss the real GOATs, or players who have the potential to be so.

Thus far we've heard all about Coleman, Bunton, Reynolds and Lockett in this thread.

I can't recall their names being mentioned in the Martin thread.

Nick Daicos will never be as good as Dustin Martin, or Voss, or Judd, or Ablett.

Stay salty, a seagull cannot be goat ;)
I can't believe you're still trying to group Martin with Ablett, Voss and Judd.

Daicos, in his two years in the system, has already put together a more complete season than all bar one of Martin's 13? seasons.

Again, if you want to drop Martin's name, this ain't the thread for it.

A seagull may not be able to be a goat, but they can soar high above them and be awesome in their own right. Two years is still such little time at the highest level, but he can keep chipping away, and I can’t wait to see how much higher he can reach on the ladder to greatness.
