Lmao Walsh was meant to be the best player in the comp too after his 2021 season, then he had a bad ankle injury and two serious back injuries.

Nothings guaranteed, just as Nicky is no guarantee to be the best player in the comp next season like he wasn't this year.
Walsh has performed in the top 10 players in the competition in one single year - please don't derail this thread with his name.

You might as well use Ollie Wines' name.

And Nicky only twice... Woopty doo
I extended it from top 5 to top 10 to be able to include Walsh.

Walsh - 6 seasons in the system, with a peak ranking in the Fadgelow of 6th in 2021 (behind Oliver, Petracca, Bontempelli, Wines and Steele).

No other seasons in the top 20.

Daicos - 3 seasons in the system, with two x top 5 finishes in the Fadgelow - 1st in 2023 and 4th in 2024.

Don't you dare woopty Doo Daicos!

Lmao 1st in 2023 😂

Even as a Pies supporter who thinks Nick has something near GAJ level upside, I think he has numerous areas of his game he needs to improve despite how well he's polled in numerous awards. His level of impact on games simply falls off in ways I don't think it does for some other dominant mids either due to tagging attention, or depending on the type/style of game, even when he still racks up the ball. Not many are mentioning the fact his disposal efficiency fell off a cliff this year, from 75.1% in 2023 to 67.2% (part of that obviously the full time move to mids, but it's not remotely at a level for an uber elite ball user)

That said it's still his third season, and lot's of other top level mids really didn't fully come into their full potential until their 4th or 5th year.

This has absolutely been highlighted, and is the result of the enforced role change to predominantly inside-mid due to the unavailability of Mitchell and De Goey.

Check out the DE of players who played similar roles to compare apples with apples.
