Pretty impressive win from GWS.

Adelaide at home has been as dominant as anyone except probably Collingwood this year.

Didn’t give them much chance, especially when Tom Green went out. They’ve got a lot of heart, had quite a few upset wins this year.

The other teams competing for the bottom half of the eight are s**t as well.

They’ve only favoured us in that it makes it easier to make finals. Any objective assessment of our ability to do anything productive in September would say that the chances are extraordinarily low.

I don’t want to be a dickhead supporter, but if missing finals prompts the change required and making finals means that change won’t happen - then I’m in favour of us missing tbh. Let’s see what the administration think.
I agree with your general sentiment but I always want the team to make the 8. As 2016 showed anything can happen if we make the 8 and especially with our roster if L Jones is back. Unfortunately I don’t think the board will make changes regardless if we finish 8-11. I think Bevo will be here regardless - better to give ourselves a chance of winning it all.

Love the sentiment but it doesn’t accord with the fact that maximising revenue is the inviolable first principle of the AFL. Business first, sport second.
True. But seriously doubt a billion dollar industry would have its bottom line hurt by having one less Cats home game at the G each season. Which is all it will genuinely cost if they rotated any of Pies, Bombers each alternating season. But the AFL act like they are losing 10 game of revenue.

That’s a perfectly understandable position. My only comment would be that we’re not comparing apples and apples here:

2016 we were a good team all year and were 15-6 with some great clutch wins despite injuries to some key players before knowing we couldn’t improve on seventh and then lost to Freo afterwards.

This year we’ve already lost eight games and have been atrocious in clutch situations. This team is light years from the 2016 team in terms of game plan, coaching, effort, decision making and commitment.

I don’t agree that 2016 showed anything can happen as long as you make the 8. Despite losing to 16th placed Freo in the final H&A round with a heap of injuries we finished in 7th spot, but closer to 1st (2 wins behind) than 8th (3 wins ahead). Change that final round result and it’s 1 win off 1st and 4 wins ahead of 8th. Most seasons don’t look anything like that.

7th we were 3 wins clear of 8th.

If you adjust for the final round of the season where we had a pile of injuries and lost to 16th place Freo (I understand you can argue

Didn’t expect GWS to win, but it’s absolutely a game they should go in as favourites for unless we have a miraculous turnaround in form next Friday night. Only just got past them at their home ground, Taylor is a gun and they really missed him. Not a coincidence they are better defensively in the last few weeks he’s been back.

Lose our next 2 and we can pack ‘er up for 2023, win them and we may be in good position for a home final.

Completely agree on all your points - if I knew for a fact the board would change Bevo and the coaching staff if we didn't make the 8 I would be all for not making the 8. I just don't have any confidence at all in the board making these changes and I don't think Bevo's + coaching staff outcomes are different if we finish 8th or we finish 12th.

That's the only reason I prefer to finish in the 8 and have a crack at the premiership. I don't think we will do anything in September but you never know at the end of the day.

Essendon got absolutely spanked tonight. Losing down there isn’t a big deal in isolation, but that was brutal.

Some people will say that they’ll then be massively up for Friday night because they’ll want to rectify that performance. They may be right, but personally it just shows me that if the dogs get beaten by this continued joke of a team then we should almost lie down anyway.

Essendon are overrated, and I get talked down every time I say that. They have beaten one top eight team all season, in Melbourne early in the season. And been fortunate to have a nice draw as well. If we lose to them, we do not deserve to play finals. They play Swans a home, Roos and Eagles ahead still. Very similar draw to us really in terms of top, middle and bottom teams to close out the season.

Next weekend will be our biggest H/A game for the rest of the season in terms of a true eight point game.

GWS also play Dogs, Essendon, and Blues. All teams around them, and teams that are nipping at our heels. So they will be ones to watch.

Saints will be the team that drops out based on form. They have Brisbane, Cats, Blues and Tigers to come.

Crows have the hardest fixture. With Lions, Power and Demons across the next 4 weeks.

Geelong finish 5th, we finish 8th. Stadium gets finished, we play them at the dung heap two weeks in a row.

You know it's happening
All of that is a distinct possibility, except for the last part.

Doesn't even have a roof on it yet. They used shonky steel, and now they are suffering the consequences

Richmond will be within 2 points after tomorrow as well ..

Carltank will make it

if we lose to Essendon I will give up. We aren’t going to make finals but at least beat these losers.

If we DO somehow make finals, it will be the most undeserved finals appearance for us ever.

Aside from Pies and Demons, the Blues should win their other 4. So you're probably right there. Tigers still have Eagles, North, Hawks, Saints, Us.

Either way, it is setting up to be one of the tightest finishes in league history, in terms of the gap between 5th and 12th/14th. Cannot wait from a football fan perspective.

Richmond should win most of those.

I'd back us to beat them but they'd win the rest

As shit as we’ve been, I really don’t think we’ve had any truly pathetic games since Round 2 (the only iffy ones were Suns and Swans otherwise). The only game I see as a guaranteed loss is Geelong at GMHBA

If the stadium was finished and we ended up in an away final against Geelong I'm sure there would be a massive push to play it at GMHBA.

Meanwhile if we were 5th and Geelong 8th I'm almost certain we'd be forced to play it at the MCG and be told to just shut up and accept it.

Jake Stringer - 21 SC points and one tackle. Imagine the melts if he was still our "package".

When he kicks 4 against West Coast in a few weeks you’ll have people posting that they would still take him back at the Dogs. Absolute spud, we won that trade by a mile.
