North. I worked there for quite a while, people there absolutely considered themselves Northside rather than Westside.

Absolutely! I consider anything east of the Maribyrnong North (apart from east & southern suburbs), but more and more I am noticing that Essendon etc are classifyed as western suburbs.

Today on the radio the newsreader said their was a fire (or something) in "Broadmeadows in Melbourne's west".....nah.

It's getting regular and I don't like it!

I grew up in Niddrie. Solidly northwest, but I wouldn't have called it west, and it's definitely more west and less north than Broadie.

Side note, my SC team is called the Broadie Binchickens.

Great name I like it.

I once worked for Hume City Council, and their catchment goes around to Sunbury, right next to Diggers Rest, North West.

Straw poll. Is Broadmeadows in Melbourne's north, south, east or west?

More details may arrive depending on responses....

I have it @ NbW 348¾°

It makes me larf when I hear Broady lumped in with the West of Melbourne.

I suspect its because most journalists grow up elsewhere and consider any predominantly working class and industrial areas, to be West of that.

North west. The old Broadmeadows line area is north-west, whereas the Upfield line area is north.

I have a vague recollection of there being a Bulldogs shop of some sort in Broady when I was a kid too, but am perhaps misremembering. (I definitely remember getting numbers put on my Footscray jumper at the shopping centre though.)

Does it bemuse anyone else seeing bad sides with bottom tier talent, celebrate the re-signing of their mediocre players that probably wouldn't even get a game in a top 8 side? I'm talking about fans of Essendon, North etc, getting excited over the re-signing of "talent" that no one else in the comp was chasing anyway. Like maybe these players you are happy to re-sign are the reason you aren't taking the next step? Idk..

North's plight is less about re-signing existing players (they don't have many of note) but more their free agent signings. Splashing out on Corr and Greenwood just reeked of spending the money for the sake of it. CCJ isn't on a back breaking contract but he can't play ruck at all yet was recruited to be a ruck/forward.

Essendope fans rejoicing over re-signing Langford like it is a marquee signing just speaks to where their list is at. Langford is a good player who would actually excel at a top club as a role player, but giving him 4 years just because a few other clubs had some interest is desperation.
