He's been in the HOF since 1998 and his name comes up in Legend discussions.

That's just for the formalities though.

How is Buddy the 6th player to kick 1000 goals and Lockett the greatest goal kicker ever?

Because the VFL/AFL is apparently the only comp that matters.

I'm a North fan and very familiar with his name. A pity he's not even recognised over the border.
Its why I genuinely disrespect nor care for any VFL record prior to 1991.

It could have been mentioned once during the broadcast to acknowledge him at least. Shameful.

“The boys believe and we believe in each other”..

what the fu** does that even mean?.. is that the direct quote?.. because its a very strange way of putting it.. that sounds to me as hinkley himself isnt actually sure he has got the confidence of the playing group..

if he did he wouldve said “the boys believe IN ME and we believe in each other..”

he’s completely cooked if he doesnt even know (with enough confidence to actually say so anyway) if he still has the full support of the playing group..

and it would be just like a fair few of those downhill skiing flogs that play for the powa to actually allow hinkley to take all the blame for the failures and hope for them to come out looking like some poor hard done by victim's of it all…
There’s no way the belief is there. Consecutive finals failures, the last one an absolute flogging when you’ve had everything go your way playing at home and a reputation of not being beating the top teams. All preseason they’d be stewing on that and when Ken talks they’d no longer be buying it as much as they once did.

Plus they know their better players are ageing and their chance has gone.

And to send a message to a club who thinks they are a contender
Perhaps Port have decided to be the opposite of flat track bullies this year....

Yeah, nah.... they are cooked!

2020 was the back breaker. Top all year, home prelim they were in. A Position to win and really should of won, then a once in a generation chance for a neutral grand final.

Bad miss that one

yeah, I dont think Melbourne will be approaching this game against port with a “this is gonna be a cakewalk“ type attitude.. like they probably did against us last year.

they will be thinking this is a wounded, backs to their wall, nothing to lose team.. so the dees will be primed for a big game..

I think they will flog em by 10 goals though.. hard to see port with all their outs standing up to the might of the dees..

2021 is evidence that 2020 wasn't the backbreaker, though it probably was the best chance they had to win it.

That loss to the Dogs may have done it, however.

I’ve seen some reference 2017 for Sydney. Let’s not forget Sydney didn’t get near it in 2017 despite the surge

Their next few finishes

2018: 6th (out first week)
2019: 15th
2020: 16th
2021: 6th (out first week)

So Sydney is more proof for Port that it’s over.

Sydney finished top in 2016 and were raging favourites in the 2016 GF. They lost an unloseable grand final.

Sydney’s early shitting of the bed in 2017, following their losing an unloseable Final the year before was an accurate reflection of the wheels falling off.

Remind you of anyone?

Sydney are a perfect example for what is happening to Port.

Sydney’s entire cycle ended with a terrible finals loss and a bad start to the next season

So has Ports

Certainly looks like it.

Preseason I was concerned we were looking at a 2001-2004 curve for Port.

2002 / 2003 they were absolutely smashed in both prelims, but came out in 2004 and went 5-1 over the first 6 rounds.

Glad to see its a different story this year, although long term it concerns me. I still rate their list and a terrible season this year means they potentially get a better coach, top 5 draft pick and could bounce back next year.

A late push to the finals, winning the first and losing in the Semi Final is the best case scenario for us.

Nah. It’s full clean out onfield and off.

They won't do it though. They should, but won't.

2022 will be cast off as bad injuries cost them.

Then load up for 2023.

Like us in 2018 it will take two seasons for the decision makers to realise the window is shut.
