Free kick Bulldogs under threat?

Beveridge thinks that playing for free kicks should be rewarded, not punished

“If you’ve got techniques that ultimately entice a clumsy or an undisciplined tackle, good luck to him, and he deserves every free kick that he gets.”

“Let’s not victimise that sort of behaviour, because it should be rewarded - not penalised,” he said.

LOL what an absolute flog that guy is.

Honestly though I can't say that I'm surprised. When you see serial cheats like Toby McLean and Weightmann constantly exploiting the high tackle rule to get frees you have to suspect that Beveridge has been encouraging his players to play this way.

The problem is that this adds another layer of 'interpretation' to umpiring. We should be trying to eliminate as many grey areas as possible. Now the umpire has to judge who caused the contact as well rather than whether it occured or not.

I would rather that than seeing players constantly being rewarded for lifting their arms.

I have wanted it to be called play on since Selwood first started it, it's been a blight on the game for 10 years so it's good to see something finally being done about it.

Why have they waited so long and allowed Selwood to build a career on it?

The AFL are just a ****ed organisation

Irrespective of any rules, the head must be protected.

To eliminate high tackles caused by the player being tackled, change the high tackle rule to...
"In the opinion of the umpire, the player responsible for the tackle being high, or becoming high, shall have a free kick paid against them".

With free kicks being paid against them, the shoulder lifting, knee dropping dirtbag will get their just desserts.

That wording of the rule is far too good for the AFL

Good point, all those "manoeuvres" could be considered prior opportunity - free against.

"You had time to raise your arm and drop your shoulder - you could have fired off a handpass"

It would be stamped out very quickly, but as someone else said the AFL had no issue with Selwood doing it for 10 years FFS.

What a woeful organisation the AFL are, so many examples of mis-management.

It's easily sorted. If you drop your knees, shoulder shrug or duck and cause a head high tackle you pay the free against the player that did it. It will be fixed in 2weeks. I believe that rule change will be made for next season. This will ensure the end of Rowe's career which was happening anyway tbh.

It's these types of issues which have made most watch less football...

Sooner Gil the dill goes & replaced with a real football person, the better!

That rule will never happen. Never, ever.

Yeah like the players who hold the ball to the player already on the ground. They'll never be the ones pinged for htb.
Wasn't holding the ball meant to be called on a club which has 3rd man in?

GWS going the full tank already. Hogan and Tom Green both managed in addition to Kelly being out.

Funny you say that, a blight on the game for 10 years?

FFS why didnt they do this to Selwood all those years ago when he milked it right into his twilight years.

Here we go again.....cant wait for another three months of stories on a camp that took place 4 years ago...
Eddie has come a long way since the kid I served in liquorland with the newly drafted Chris Yarran. Buying alcohol for a party they were having. Eddie was keen to buy some pulses to get the "bitches drunk".
