Lyon will no doubt be able to adapt his gameplan to be relevant today.
I think he's the type of coach that you only bring in for a limited period when you have a list that's about to open a premiership window. Like we saw at Freo once he no longer has a squad in the premiership window he tends to struggle when it comes to developing a

The findings of the Ernst & Young review of the club, commissioned after Rutten was sacked, paint a picture of a fractured football department acting in silos with the report unearthing “a lack of unity” and no “shared vision”.
It found the club had also been too commercially focused and needed to get back to putting people, members, players and football first.
The above highlighted comment is one of the outside views I've had about the Bombers for a long-time .......always flogging stuff on their website ......moreso than other Clubs, but you can get a view from some websites as to which Clubs focus more on the commercial side of footy over and above Footy
For people that were wondering how close Ross Lyon was to being a premiership coach, watch from 1:40 and you'll see how a bad bounce cost the Saints (and Lyon) a flag.
Does Lyon's defensive game plan work in todays game though? He peaked early at Freo and they spent the next few years looking pretty awful.
What Saints are doing it would be like us going to Neil Craig again.Could you imagine the melts here if we recycled one of our old coaches?
yeah no, Lyon got them to grand finals. What Saints are doing it would be like us going to Neil Craig again.

I've honestly never seen this before (think I was away for this GF). It's that the Milne bounce people have always gone on about?
People are severely underestimating him, he's coached two teams and made 3 grand finals and one of them was a draw. The other 2 he lost by under 3 goals.
With a bit of luck he could have been a duel or triple premiership coach.
Lyon is a very defensive coach and he will make St Kilda a very dour strong team if he can implement what he has done before.People are severely underestimating him, he's coached two teams and made 3 grand finals and one of them was a draw. The other 2 he lost by under 3 goals.

Most likely with some tweaks. Football has always rewarded defensive gameplans, and Freo/Saints showed his ability with mature lists.
Really, he's probably going to be limited by just how pedestrian the Saints list has become, but Lyons will most likely get everything out of them.

Yes but who are their Nick Reiwoldt, Leigh Montagna, Nick Dal Santo, Lenny Hayes, Brenton Goddard on their current list?
Seriously, with the talent they had they should have won flags.
The difference is that Lyon can actually coach and a lot of their supporters were disappointed when he left. The only reason he ever left the Saints originally was because Freo offered him a godfather deal.
He has guided two teams that historically have under performed into being super competitive sides and got them both into Grand Finals.
I would argue too that the Saints were one bad ball bounce away from a flag in 2010, if that ball sat for Milne in the final minute then Ross Lyon would be a premiership coach.
He's not a popular coach due to his style, but I've always rated him and think that he's a great coach.

Not sure why you’d be cheering about this…
Because the government will probably be the ones to stump up the $15 mill now…
And that means you and I, and all the others here who pay tax, will probably end up paying for it!..
*ing brilliant.
Seems overblown to me. Thought it would have been a ball that bounced backwards on the goal line or something.Yep, that's the one.
