The Port I grew up hating (although jealous of their constant success) was a ruthless club, they even sacked one of their biggest names for not winning any finals for 3yrs in a row (had to look that up - before my time) and now here we are with them being satisfied of finishing 3rd in the minor round and not winning a final. It's no wonder the older Port supporters hate Koch and co, they accept mediocrity (we are guilty of this too) at board level and making finals is a pass mark.

He even spoke of losing 3 big games for the year (2x showdowns and 1x final) which suggests that winning showdowns are as important as any final to them. For us fans we also rate them highly, but as a club, it should only be viewed as another game.

Just imagine what Fos would be thinking hearing this.

Long live Kochie!!! :D
All we've been hearing the last 3 days from Power flogs is 'this is not the club I've supported for 40 years' etc

And therein lies the problem......PAFC is not the club it was, and it will never return to what is was back in the 'halcyon' days.

The flogs cant get this through their thick heads. Or maybe they cant or wont accept that they play in an equalised comp whereby they cant just go and get whoever they want (as opposed to what they did in the 80's & 90's) to win them flags as they did.

It will never be like the SANFL club the supporters want it to be. They need to realise this.

Rucci made a comment the other day which revealed where they are at… basically they still remember how bad it was before Ken.

Their survival and business plan relies on them being in or around the top 8 and the danger of a bottom 4 finish leading to multiple bottom 4 finishes would be a disaster for them.

Obviously avoiding a deliberate and complete rebuild like ours isn’t a bad thing but I guess it means playing it safe makes sense for them.

They want to win trade weeks, the draft, the preseason and ultimately sell memberships. They cant afford risking top 8 to be top 1.

I used to think they'd rather win a showdown than the flag.
While not true in reality, its not really far off in the way they literally think down at Alberton.

They are a victim of their own stupidity in placing so much emphasis on Showdowns.

I genuinely feel that the hysteria around the covid pandemic and the impact it had on the AFL at the time has masked some of the pain of the rebuild that we had to go through.

The only way he will step down is if he is paid out fully, which wont happen.

Much like Adam Simpson, he will hold Port to ransom here. At least Simpson has the pedigree, being that he has delivered a flag.

Its really beautiful thing whats happening to Port at the moment.:rainbow:
And then bounce back in 2025 make Finals.

The majority of board members at both SA clubs have all these three things in common.

1. They don’t bleed for the club (the past players might be the exceptions).

2. They believe they have a divine right to be on the board. This happens when you don’t ever face judgement day via an election. Human beings are not wired to voluntarily give up their power or prestige.

3. They’re completely and entirely out of touch with members.

The board of either club doesn’t want Tredrea at the table because what’s good for them as individuals is much more important than what’s good for the club.

And Tredrea is very bad for them as individuals.

You do understand that the board members are approved and appointed by the AFL under their respective constitutions. Ours does change in 2028 and it will be interesting if control is handed over to the membership of the AFC.

I believe only two are appointed (???) by the members in the case of the AFC.

Did I hear correctly that Kern's wife and son both work at the club?
I knew the son was an analyst or something

And that nepotism is the problem at Port. The decision to give Ken a contract was not about doing everything they can to win a premiership. It was all about keeping the fab 4 (Koch, Ken, Richo, Davies) together.

They're having so much fun. Would you risk it all and bring in a new coach? For what, a Premiership? And risk a friendship??

That club needs a Yoko badly.

It's network building and positional strength.

You might agitate against 1 but the other 3 will close ranks.

It's what Chapman and Roo used to shut out the Burton noise. Until they could no longer ignore it.

And yes it is/does happen at the AFC

I reckon that's a fairly cynical view.

It’s not, it’s an absolute reality.

People like Tredrea who are prepared to wear a significant personal cost to prosecute uncomfortable truths are few and far between in the industry (in any industry, actually).

In most other cases, it’s a sure bet to back self-interest.

Even if you did actually believe such an outlook is too cynical, neither of the two boards have the runs on the board to negate that cynicism.

These unelected frauds have delivered nothing but poor outcomes for both clubs.

Welcome to 5000 pages ago.

We’re not disputing any of this is factual, we’re saying it stinks.

We have a relatively new board though (in comparison) with a major turnover in recent years. And they have been overseeing a rebuild on and off the field. I think you'd have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now...

I know it has been said before, however listening to David Koch, and the interview from this morning specifically, is just like listening to a Corporate CEO regurgitating stats to justify how everything is awesome. From a business perspective, they are are possibly doing well above average given their small stature. Yay!

And this is what pisses off Port faithful more than anything. Their Club has been transformed into a sports franchise and being operated as a business rather than a football club.

Everything that they have accused the Crows of; they have now become.

Welcome aboard the train of mediocrity, we hope to be departing shortly.

Never has a truer sentence been written.

What on earth was Koch going on about re the 'data' ?

Reminds me of the day that England were beaten at the AO by Bangladesh in 2015 to end their world cup campaign.

England's coach Peter Moores first comment, when quizzed by the journo's was 'we will need to look at the data'.

"I counted the wins and I counted the losses and one came out to be more than the other"
