Apparently he didn't want to play VFL?

Why risk him when they are starting to humm along nicely.

Because he's a class young player, need to get him up to speed somehow

Will likely start as the sub and be eased into it.

Fagan has said he’s straight back in playing full minutes fwiw

So this is interesting

First takeaway is it underlines just how far ahead Sydney is of the rest. Played every side in the top 8 and beaten them all

Geelong have only played 5 sides in the top 8 for a solitary win, when everyone else bar Fremantle (see below) have played between 6 and 8

The resurgence of both Brisbane and Hawthorn has come largely from games against sides outside the current top 8 - they’re both 1-5

Finally Fremantle, oh Fremantle. Only 4 games versus sides in the current top 8 with just one draw to show from those 4 games

Feel like outside of Sydney it's a real year of mediocrity. So much shit footy has been played by every team this year with poor skills and conversion coupled with abysmal umpiring.

Will Ashcroft returning 11 months after his ACL

No coming back through the ressies just straight back in

Bold decision.

Has been doing full match sim for the past two months and the return date (first home game post-bye) has been fixed in place since then as well. He's very much ready to go.

It's been trending this way for a while. Talent is spread thin and it's a sea of mediocrity with maybe one or max two good teams a season.

Geelong in 22, Collingwood in 23, these are not premiership teams in other eras.

I thought '22 was bad but this year is looking even worse. At least Sydney looks like a team that would threaten in more competitive years.

Boy, can't wait for Tassie to come and dilute it even further! The AFL and the heartland clubs really need to step up and focus on youth development, but given how short-sighted and self-centered they all are...

Especially with the number of ACL injuries they have already had this year.
Would have brought him back through the ressies to get touch and confidence.

The good news is that we don't have to accumulate too much take to jump back into contention. Optimistically, we might already have enough once Reid has enough pre-seasons to impact for a full match. If we can get some depth through trades and convert some of our young talls into KPD, then we could be back pretty quickly.

Nail on the head stuff. We need more depth in the middle, and as you’ve said if we can convert some talks to KPD spots we’ll be up the ladder pretty quick smart.

Pretty much Fagan’s philosophy. He has his best 22, and they play every game, regardless of form.

Doesn’t believe in sending players back to the ressies to find form, or for best 22 players to come back through the ressies.

The only way to push up from the VFL to seniors permanently, is for a best 22 player to fall off a cliff, ala Dan Rich and Jack Gunston, or earn a place during the preseason, or for a fringe player to get a season ending injury and for a ressie to come in and out perform said injured player.
