With the late changes at the saints and bombers, and the uncertainty over north and hawks, we need a secondary trade week…

Kram , I am calling this now.

Watch the saints fans plot their revenge on Ross Lyon lol.

The saints will keep him for 2-4 years then sack him with 1 or 2 years left on his deal as an act of revenge lol.

Ross Lyon didn't get sacked at the saints in 2011, he walked out on them LoL

Ross will start slow, he has at both other jobs, including us. His method takes some time and he takes a bit of time to sort who he wants and doesn't. That'll be the test for them. They don't have a great record of being strong and that's what this might take. The real issue for them will be whether he's been able to adapt to the "modern" footy because in the early going him not adapting and not being able too adapt will look exactly the same as if he has got it right and its just taking time to implement.

I am not just saying it to be wise after the event said it on the night as well was extremely angry we did it as I thought he would last to 40 plus.
Just on this point I can ease your concern there. Henry was going top 20 for sure. Other than Carlton I know of 2 other clubs that were going to pull the trigger on him and happy to keep him if we didn't match. I know a recruiter who worked then, and still works now, at one of the clubs in question and he's told me a couple of times since that draft they were calling him at their pick and hoping to keep him. He has since confirmed one other club who felt the same as us and Carlton so he was definitely going top 20.

FWIW he doesn't believe Carlton called Henry at 9 just to screw us, but he does believe they called him before Green so as not to upset GWS as much due to other things they wanted to do with them.

I wouldn't call us being 11th in 2011 before Ross, to then finish 7th (with a final's win at the G) to 3rd with a Grand Final appearance slow start by any means. Not for us. Regardless of how good our list was or where we should have finished, the facts are we were 11th then made a grand final two seasons after that. That's not slow - that's bloody quick

Imagine our midfield if we picked up Chad Warner in this draft instead of Henry

We matched henry with a couple picks in the 50s so warner wouldn't have made it anyway?? Unless we live traded some other picks ?
Right?

We seem to go through this every few months.

We didn’t pick Henry at 9.

We matched a bid at 9.

We couldn’t score for the first half of 2012 before we went on a winning streak in the second half of the year.

Remember there was a Mark Harvey loving Freo supporter who would ring up all the radio stations reminding everyone she switched to Saints after 2011 when we poached RTB…

Looks like we just gained 1 supporter back.

I agree overall but I mean in results in his first year. We didn't get off to a roaring start in his first season with us. In 2012 we were running less than 50% wins at about round 14 or so from memory. At about the halfway mark there was some concern about how we were going and even an issue with Pav at one point in Tassie I think. We finished well and then '13 a GF so yes, once he got it to stick with the guys we became very good quickly, but it wasn't a case of Ross taking over and us going mental from the jump. There were some sputters early.

Edit - or what Piggy said...

Lyon has been meeting president Andrew Bassat and new CEO Simon Lethlean in recent days and the coaching veteran of 163 AFL matches publicly expressed his desire for the job.

“I’m keen,” Lyon told Channel Nine.

“My heart’s been opened up to St Kilda through Andrew and Simon and their board.”

Lyon hinted that he was motivated to turn-around public perceptions of the Saints, with the club having contested finals only once, in 2020, since he left.

Dear lord St Kilda are a rabble. Electing him as their senior coach, when he's already proved without a shadow of a doubt that the game has passed him
Priceless!

So Gill and the AFL have announced an "Independent" panel to investigate the alleged wrong doing at Hawthorn.
Can it really be "independent" if the panel selected by the AFL, is reviewing a part of the AFL family.
I also thought that there was talk of a truly independent panel ,maybe run by the government to investigate.
