I often laugh at the images AFL media post to promote various things. They'll show a photo that clearly shows a defender illegally scragging to promote his team winning or a forward lining up for goal, when anyone who watched, knows they missed. They just pick a photo they think looks good, but if you have half a clue, understand the irony or falsehood of the photo in the context of the message they are trying to send, particularly on social media.
Tonight, to promote the GF 'rematch' they use this;
The pain here is obvious and real. The funny thing is that to me, this perfectly reminds me of the farce that the Grand Final was. After refusing to pay any free kicks to Sydney for the first 3 quarters, this is Easton Wood, crashing into Hannerbery's legs in what is ruled against as dangerous contact below the knees. Hannerbery, an important Swan, missed a crucial 10 minutes of the game with his injured leg and once again the infringement was ignored by the umpires. Another piece in the Bulldogs Premiership pie. The pain in the knee, the pain of losing are probably nothing compared to the AFL umpires handing their opponent the flag that day.
Tonight, because of what is illustrated here, I will barrack for the Swans. Will the umpires play fair? Probably not enough on the line to cheat like they did on Grand Final day, so the incompetence might still be there, but I hope more evenly served.
Go Swans.
