I think these stats show that both players had terrific years with Jas being slightly ahead on nearly every measure.

I'm failrly comfortable now with Mon winning the award, she's a brilliant player that had a stand out year in a mid table side. That's a pretty standard recipe for a league best and fairest winner

I'm not comfortable though with Jas not being anywhere near the podium, despite being the best player in the league. It takes away the credibility of the award and tarnishes it for everyone

You could see the players were treating it as a bit of a joke during the count as well but when the best player is not getting votes it's impossible to take it seriously.

It's a real shame too. Mon doesn't deserve to have her acheivement undermined but when the voting system is so obviously flawed it pretty much just ruins the whole thing.

Pretty stoked to get tickets to the GF. 4 of us going including my 20 yr old daughter and my mate and his 16 yr old son. Both the young ones pushed us to get tickets, which was great. Looking forward to a pro North crowd.

Stupid comment, Conti is one of the top 5 players (probably even top 2) in the league and there isn't one person on the NMFC board who wouldn't love to see her in Royal Blue and White.

I didn't watch enough Richmond games, but Conti's stats suggest she had a pretty impressive and consistent season, and she was always going to garner a high votes tally because Richmond's midfield was weaker this year with McKenzie missing most of the season, while Jas and Ash, and also Marinoff and Hatchard took votes off each other.

The disposal numbers between Jas and Ash were similar from game to game, so there was always a strong chance that they would take votes off each other, but the surprise for me was King and Kearney taking votes off them for games that probably only warranted one vote. I don't think either Jas or Ash would have won the award, but I don't think they should have been as far behind as they were.

This is exactly why this award, and the Brownlow, should never be referred to as "the best and fairest", but rather the "MVP". There's no denying that Conti is probably the MVP because she's a star (top 5 player in the comp at least) playing in a far weaker team than Jas. Jas has to compete with so much talent that she might only get 1 or 2 votes in games that a player in a worse team would absolutely get 3 for. It doesn't make that player the best in the comp though, just the most important relative to their team. Look at Jas's numbers and then her teammates' throughout the season and whilst she's insanely consistent so are Mia king, Ash Riddell and Jenna Bruton, not to mention Emma Kearney and Emma King as well. You can't win a 1-2-3 vote count when players almost as good as you also play on your team. The unbalanced fixture also plays a part but Richmond played a lot of the finals teams so can't really fault that this time.

Come out breathing fire like we did against Melbourne and we'll be very hard to beat. The pressure that day was insane.

Or it might reflect that, despite the fact she says some weird stuff, she watches and knows things -she said Riddell had her best season and it was very possible that she and Garner would split the votes, and that’s what happened.

I reckon Marinoff and Hatchard are ok with sharing votes and missing the medal because they get to share premierships. Garner and Riddell will be the same if this weekend goes their way.

Did Kelli do the voice overs for the highlight packages? She might have been involved in the production. Obviously, they are professionals and they prepare all of the graphics, round by round vote displays and so on so that there are no glitches or gremlins on the big night to make them look like fools. And as professionals, there would be no dropping of hints about the results before the envelopes were opened!

Joking of course. Conti is a top player and for her to not be in contention would be an anomaly. On the other hand, daylight to Jas is an anomaly and it has to be questioned. Not that the media seem to consider it necessary (apart from Whatley according to Lomas ).

Have followed them all year and went to every Melbourne game. Including last weekend where there was barely over 6000 people.
