You never had 8 wins across 3 seasons like us

In 2016 you had 6 wins, 6 wins in 2017 and 2 in 2018 that’s 14 across 3 seasons

Plus you had already received priority picks for walker, Murphy etc so I doubt the afl were too keen to give you more

North never having one will play a part

We could win all remainder 6 games and still be equal worse with blues over that time
North look particularly uncompetitive this year without Cunnington. I'd say Carlton looked worse at times in those years when missing a player of that caliber, we just never had them miss a whole year

But how can you say with great conviction that you have enough talent but in the same breath say you're applying for a priority pick? Where's the professionalism in that?
It’s mostly fluff when presidents speak about where they see their club

They easily still speak with conviction

Their own president said that their list is full of talent, so they're essentially saying we don't need one, we have enough good talent. They better not apply for one or it'll look bloody silly.
also said it takes time, but in the same breathe sacks the coach.
Doesn't instil a lot of confidence. Sad irony is Noble might have made a good CEO for them given that was his trajectory.

I don't see how pick 1 helps to be honest.
The list is young. it was always going to struggle for a number of years when this was the path they took
JHF, Simpkin, LDU, Thomas, Powell, Phillips + addition of either Wardlaw or Tsatas (possibly Ashcroft) this year is a strong young midfield.
The middle is pretty good. Plenty of young rucks coming through and Goldy is still top tier (somehow).
Couple of drafts investing in their spine would help.

I don't see how pick 1 helps that this year unless it's on-traded for a bunch of picks.

Pick 1 isn't a silver bullet, neither is a priority pick. Bigger cap space ability to recruit mature age players at will, a bigger list space.

i was more thinking soft cap to pay some coaches & list spots to add some mature bodies without stalling the rebuild.

I can agree to that. Their next coach needs to the coach for the future. I can't see them landing Clarkson, he would be best suited at the GWS giants. I reckon they need somebody recently out of the game, Hanson, McVeigh although they aren't super recent, but you get my drift.

i'd argue for a Roos/Goodwin setup with Clarkson
Get him in, tell him it's for 2-3 years. He gets the next coach ready. Can leave when Tassie comes onboard.

Don’t mind this.

Reckon soft cap space is what we need, stop worrying about profit and start pumping more more into S&C, beefing up development etc

It's a good plan, but is Clarkson picking his next in line? Is the AFL? Is North?

The chances of Clarkson agreeing is probably not high
One would hope that North are asking Clarko to pick his own team to bring in with him.

You’ll probably cop a few laugh reacts but I kinda agree I’d say he’d be fringe 22 when or more accurately if we get to full strength and in form but he’d be valueable for us

Put it this way, I’d sooner him that Matt crouch
You'd sooner a guy who has never been first 22 in an AFL team over a guy who was a B&F winner for a grand finalist and All Australian?

Crouch cops it around here, but people forget he's coming off two injured years and is in a disfunctional midfield.

Yep if he can’t get a game in a bottom 5 club I doubt he’d really improve us to the levels we need to get too, perhaps the injuries have taken their toll. I’d be fuming if we went that direction

I don't remember either Hood or Amarfio saying we had enough talent, but I do remember Amarfio saying we need to bring in more.

I'm not a big fan of priority picks, but I think there are circumstances when clubs need assistance, and this is the first time North has needed some assistance through the draft.

If we are to get a priority pick, I hope we don't get one at the start of the first round, unless we can find a way to trade it for a couple of picks in the middle of the first round.

Does he want to be coming off two injured years just to join North Melbourne's dysfunctional midfield?

Always been against it, but I’m starting to think they need it.
If Melb Carlton Hawthorn Dogs etc all got one, north needs one. They’re in a worse spot than all but Melb of those.

I reckon give them pick 11 in the next 2 drafts. Teams missing finals have their picks 1-10 un touched. Teams making finals pushed up 1 spot.

I think giving them pick 2 would be unfair for the other teams building.

That is probably fair.

So this years draft you want them to have picks 1,11 and a pick between 18-22. Almost three first round picks? Why don't we just give them the whole first 10?

Their second round pick this year is tied to someone else (Richmond I think). In this scenario they'd only have 1 and 11
