Gold Coast Assistance Package 2019

  • Pick #1 and #20 in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft.
  • Pick #11 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft.
  • Pick #19 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft.
  • Ability to pre-list Academy and Darwin zoned academy players
  • Additional 10 Rookie list spots

North Melbourne Assistance Package 2022
  • Round 2 & 3 pick in the 2023 NAB AFL draft (must be traded in 2022)
  • Additional 2 Rookie list spots.
2 wrongs don’t make a right though. That package granted to GCS was a disgrace and should never ever be considered again.
With regards to North, they will improve over time just like past cellar dwellers. I think they should be thankful for any assistance they are given as this kind of bail out from the AFL will be a thing of the past, imo.

guess first round priority picks are no longer a thing

thats fine but it should have been eligible for clubs that have never received them before phasing them out
Chin up. You were right.

It's more than one pick.

what a ******* joke

middle of first had to be the min for the amount of wins we had over last 3 years

Rewarding bad teams is the worst way to run a league. You have a strong coach. Your President said the list was great. 2 future picks to trade out and more space ion the list helps because youre not spending the cap at the moment anyway, and it makes no sense giving extra money to players who dont deserve it just to meet the minimum.

The AFL did the right thing. Its picks 19-ish and 38-ish. Go for kids on the outer at other clubs.

I know. Brilliant decision by North not to go. Just beat out Essendon to sign the greatest coach of all time to a long term contract, whilst winning multiple finals since that decision was made. Imagine.
So why do you need priority picks at all?

If only they used that same stance for all priority picks given in the past like when you got multiple first round priority picks

You got more priority picks than we ever did. 😞

Amazing. Anyone would think that Gold Coast are a newly established club in non-AFL territory while North are an established club in AFL heartland.

So they get to trade for 2 free kids, plus 2 extra list spots. Effectively 4 kids on their list for free. A list they willingly gutted mind you.

You did?

Didn't you see the article?

Here's the link mate

North granted extra draft picks, list spots by the AFL - North granted extra draft picks, list spots by the AFL
Picks in the second and third round that we're not allowed to actually use in the draft. We've had our own draft hands ****ed over and over by the AFL handing out top 3 picks like lollies but now that it's us who need assistance, suddenly there's a deep concern for the integrity of the draft order. They have the gall to bullshit us and say they want us to be "competitive sooner" to justify giving us a significantly weaker hand and taking away our agency in what we do with it. Are we to presume they wanted the Suns to be competitive more slowly, therefore giving them multiple first rounders in consecutive years to do whatever they pleased with?

Exactly. They get a bunch of things. Maybe only 1 kid in with both picks being used. And none of them are overly powerful

If only the AFL never changed. Then we would be okay with players getting concussed, Essendon buying player domain names for $250k a pop outside the cap, racial vilification, etc.

Or we acknowledge that the AFL needs to grow up and understand that short term decisions have long term impacts.

There is nothing stopping them from doing the same next year if the Roos are last. But gifting a 1st round pick and the Roos rising up the ladder even with that gift having little impact has penalised other teams needlessly.

Thats ok you'll still be able to take all your picks to the draft and use these freebies to get in experienced players. What a win win.

NM's priority picks are a good sign, if that's where the AFL go in the future.

Who am I kidding, the AFL will favour certain love children and nail other who are annoying. Great organisation the AFL, to a certain definition of great

Yeah good thing they're protecting other clubs from North.

Meanwhile fresh off their preliminary final Brisbane can look forward to the the #1 draft pick as a F/S and Dunkley for their late 1st rounder.

Absolutely laughable. Equalization in this comp is a joke.
I've got no issue with the assistance given to North, I just laugh at the bullshit justification that they've structured the assistance this way so that it 'doesn't penalise other clubs' when of course making up draft picks does.

I am fully on board the AFL scrapping priority picks and FA compo moving forward though, for that very reason.
