And Sanders, even if he gets added to Norths NGA, rules before the season were no nga can be matched before pick 40.
You can't just magically change the rules at the end of the year because one team sucks.

Can’t for the life of me see McKay getting band one and I can’t see the AFL giving North the rights to take a cherry picked kid in the top ten.

Picks 1, 16 (Port), 19 (PP) and 20 (McKay) is already a great draft hand. And that’s on top of the likely rising star winner and a kid that North fans suggest will be an absolute gun in Wardlow.

It matters not what you think McKay is worth. What matters is age, length of contract, and how much per season his new offer is.

McKay was originally selected at pick 20, and you think after 8 seasons of development and coming into his prime years, we should get that pick back whilst potentially Port Adelaide bolster their 16 win team and get him for free.

You are forgetting the fourth part of compo- the compo can be changed at any time if the result is materially anomalous.

Band 1 for McKay is arguably highly anomalous.

What matters is what other clubs think he's worth. If someone is crazy enough to pay him 800k a year than clearly he will get out band one.

But I can't for the life of me see anyone value him that high.

Where you room him in the draft 8 years ago is irrelevant, as is how many wins Port Adelaide get this year.

Coincidentally, still lead the league by seasons end.

This season, he is still 20 better than Logue whilst learning to gel in probably his 5th defensive structure in 5 years...

The last comment is regarding free agency. If you allow required players to leave for top 8 teams with minimal compensation, then it's not really working, is it?

You may be right about free agency, but that is what is in place. The argument that we should get more because we aren't very good and Port is doesn't stack up.

Whether the rules need a shake up is a different story.

He lead the league in 2022 ya goose, and has had to adjust, yet again, with Logue coming in, to a different role.

If you watch the 12 game stretch I'm talking about, he was averaging almost 6 intercepts a game and was in full flight.

The rules are fine. If the player warrants band 1 or 800k x 3(or whatever the secret herbs and spices say), then they get band 1 compensation picked after their draft pick. Hence why Spud got pick 3 and Buddy pick 19
