Well if we are being consistent with not being dodgy, McKay should not be getting North a tier one free agency compo pick.

And Sanders, even if he gets added to Norths NGA, rules before the season were no nga can be matched before pick 40.
You can't just magically change the rules at the end of the year because one team sucks.
How can I argue with you when you keep saying what I believe?

Best key forward: Ben Brown - 4x leading goalkicker

Best key back: Robbie Tarrant - B & F winner

Best midfielder: Shaun Higgins - All Australian, 2 x B & F winner

Recent number 1 pick elite mid: Jason Horne-Francis

All within 24 months.

We'll have our priority pick now, thanks.
2 blokes who should've retired instead of moving and Brown who actually wanted to stay but was pushed out.

Your #1 pick who came to a shambles of a club and was publicly shamed by club greats.

Yeah, great examples

I hate that people keep parroting this figure as if it's relevant or insightful.

McKay is 25 now. He was drafted as a 200cm skinny bean pole teenager who everyone knew would take time to bulk up and develop into an AFL system.

And you know what? This is a rare case where we have a perfect comparison because he's a freakin identical twin!

Harry has only played 25~ more games than Ben during that same 7 year period.

Big men take time. McKay is now 25 and has averaged 18.3 games a season over the past three seasons. And as Clarko said, his next 8 years are going to be his absolute prime.
So Harry has played 35% more than what Ben has, and you are suggesting that isn’t a poor reflection on Ben?

Still think the most likely is an end of first round pick

Can’t for the life of me see McKay getting band one and I can’t see the AFL giving North the rights to take a cherry picked kid in the top ten.

Picks 1, 16 (Port), 19 (PP) and 20 (McKay) is already a great draft hand. And that’s on top of the likely rising star winner and a kid that North fans suggest will be an absolute gun in Wardlow.

You don't think they actively made choices to try to weaken rather than strengthen their list, and then made on field decisions to further that scheme? They had some horrendous luck (especially cunnington) and some poor development (basically everyone) but the first time they ever tried to actually improve their situation was when the AFL forced them (by giving them PP they has to trade for mature talent).

Comparing to our club, they could have gotten guys like Amon and Impey that would have solved their lack of midfield speed problems and really empowered the club, but they never tried to help themselves, because they wanted ever more assistance instead.

It was engineered to be like this.
They are continuing to deliberately weaken their list shoving McKay out the door not just for an early pick this year but already planning their whinge for a PP at the end of next year.

Well yes, but blame THE AFL not North for this warped FA compo system. Any other club in the same position would do the same

That is true, I think another poster made a suggestion that FA compo cannot come until after the picks for the teams that missed the 8 which sounds like it would help somewhat.

I still struggle to see a club paying Ben McKay $800k/year for 3+ years, but if someone does then good for North for getting pick 2/3 for him. The AFL wouldn't step in and change it because it reflects what the market is paying for the player $$ wise.

I rate this idea a lot. Personally I don’t like compo at all but if it’s here to stay I think this is the way to do it

Shoving him out the door?
McKay has a choice and he doesn’t to stay.
