I hear North supporters get it for free. You use it everyday.

As many North supporters/figures have said themselves, gonna be hard for the Roos to invoke 'Shinboner spirit' now that they've basically been mollycoddled two years in a row by the AFL.

Who invokes that anyway? Nobs in the media?

I wonder if the culture of the club is worth all these draft picks. It's the reason why I hate but also respect Hawthorn - as they do us -; we just don't tank.

Are you kidding me? This is the team that moved players around against Richmond to lose deliberately for a priority pick. You think us beating GC in the last round was a grand strategy to get assistance?

One side who got compo in a different system that automatically allocated it 20 years ago stayed up for a good decade...came down...and now is on the rise again - without any assistance to get them there.

I don't know who you are referring to. There has only been one club that has won a flag in the last two decades that hasn't received priority picks, so save the sermin.

The other side who was up for a good decade themselves, before ebbing and flowing for another decade, has now decided to throw culture out the window and beg for assistance year after year - for self-inflicted wounds.

Blah, blah, blah, how many of these clubs had to rebuild smack in the middle of a pandemic when the AFL forced clubs to slash their football department budgets?

Yes Cunnington was a loss. Yes JHF going home was a pain. Yes your coaches having issues set you back a bit...but the rest of it you did to yourselves. Now any club can just tank for 4 years, amass high draft picks, and then contend again - courtesy of the AFL and all its secret herbs and spices.

We didn't tank, we just weren't good enough to win more games. There is a massive difference. Tarrant also left as an unrestricted free agent, he wanted 2 more years but managed 20 games with Richmond. Higgins left for Geelong, he couldn't even make it in your best 22, both retired. It is not like we were losing Wayne Carey types in their prime. Everyone who has left or we have cut has near on zero impact wherever they have gone, save Woods, he hasn't been terrible at the Saints.

There just wasn't enough left to make us competitive, covid didn't help bring younger players up to speed with a significant cut in development coaches thanks to forced football department spending cuts by the AFL. There should have been more scope for clubs who weren't a contender and could afford it to keep development staff on.

Ben was cooked, he tried his best to return but it just took too much out of him. It isn't his fault.

Could you imagine the outrage if Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast, Sydney or Richmond pulled this kind of nonsense in a few years; because they'd been successful and now they weren't anymore - so now they needed AFL help?

I don't think anyone needs assistance. I'd rather we got nothing and the AFL said there is no assistance to anyone. No academies, no father son, just the draft. We would still recover, it would just take longer.

You can thank the clubs that bitched and moaned about who got to play us twice this year. It exposes the sham that is the AFL schedule where they devise who plays each other based on maximising attendances and broadcasting ratings, the only professional sport to do so. This is a sport to make money, not to be fair.

The AFL would much rather dish us out some picks than have to deal with explaining to people the status quo is a contrived environment that is manipulated for ratings and attendances because these are the only metrics given to measure performance for the AFL commission. Having dead rubber games threatens the status quo, it is bad for ratings, bad for attendances, it allows some lame ducks to qualify for finals thanks to playing us twice. AFL doesn't want that. They couldn't give a shit about what is fair or equitable, just as long as people swallow the load they are shooting at you.

Hell, our WA and SA licenses are just there to make money for their license holders, you are acting like there is something more to it for the people who control the game. How many players does your club hide payments too off the books? Your club is as bad as Carlton or Richmond or the many others in Melbourne. Where is your moral outrage? How many Carlton players are Visy ambassadors, 13 was the last count. When was the last time anyone saw or heard from a Visy ambassador?

Come on, if we want to go down the rabbit hole of fair and equity, don't limit yourself to the dead obvious.

I just don't understand it. You were such a proud club. Now you've turned into this.

And your club wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for my club, we vetoed the vote to kick Geelong out of the competition. We all have regrets.

I sincerely hope this is the end of Priority picks - as they are a stain on the comp; and encourage tanking. Alas, I daresay it won't be...as the AFL love the idea of 'equalisation'...even though it never bloody works and it always makes things worse, lol.

The end? It has barely begun, Tasmania is going to be on this for two decades at least.

Enjoy the picks. But for the next few years, don't preach to any of us on here about 'how good our youth is'...and 'how we'll be playing Finals by 2025' - because even if you do make it you won't have earned it; the AFL will have handed it to you on a silver platter because of your own ineptitude as a club.

The irony is that we used the assistance last year to get Logue and Tucker, who aren't kids, and I am guessing we will go after some more mature players this year, we haven't had any help getting kids, unlike most other clubs have.

This is an absolute disgrace on so many levels. Seething. Once again the VFL cares nothing for the integrity of the game.

North did this to themselves. Whats the lesson? If you stuff it up, stuff it right up and the AFL will come and bail you out. Stuff it up just a bit and midtable clubs can happily languish there.

The 2024 picks are even more disturbing - they are effectively encouraging North to be awful for next year too. Do too well and you might lose 2x 1st rounders. It's competition-sanctioned tanking.
Put yourself in Norths shoes. What would you do?

I don’t give a * about the competition I care about North being competitive and will take any assistance that helps that.

And if you’re being honest you’d think exactly the same about your club.

North could be competitive in the VFL

This is what happens when the league tries to artificially equalise every team in the league. We get teams running to the league asking for free picks like a dole bludger at Centrelink...Remember, North were the ones that willingly cut 1/4 of their list a couple years ago.
Crikey! Look at you.

Remember, that was the year that basically every team cut 1/4 of their players coz the AFL cut list sizes?

You can hardly blame the system if no kid sees North as a destination club. The priority pick system was scrapped for a good reason, remember guys like Alex Rance were end of first round priority for Richmond and he essentially got them a premiership in 2017. Handing 2 end of first round picks for gross mismanagement is a sham. I agree with the poster who just said AFL is a joke. There's a system in place, let the system work. North had multiple top picks for years now, handing picks plus other advantages to them is unfair to the rest of the teams.

If Freo wanted to keep Logue then tight-arse Bell should have given him a better offer on a deal. Same issue with Acres and Henry.
I have to agree.

I have said this. It's on the Freo board with Logue leaving the club.

Should of given Logue that 2 year extension at the end of 2021. That means he would still be at Freo in 2024, his 8th year, his free agency year too.
