It was an interesting day at Vic Park, that's for sure! The league needs to also have a good look at who they send to umpire these games. The young guys umpiring were clearly intimidated by Stars players. A lot of the free kicks paid in the last quarter were very strange, but at least it settled some of the tension and didn't affect the result of the game too much. These umpires need to show some balls and do something about situations before they escalate. The umpire could clearly see the Fitzroy player leave the field of play, walk through the coaching staff into the interchange area to confront the Lower player on the bench, and he didn't have the courage to do anything about it.

Many umpires do it for the money not for the love of the game, some of the umpires in the twos and U19's are no good, fit or have the committment to umpire properly, oh, people will say they are the two's and U19's so who cares, don;t you think the players have every right to expect , competant umpires no matter which level they play? oh, but you won;t get them if we criticise, the Ammos do very well with clubs supplied umpires...

The start of the second time around on the merry-go-round and the outcome of the matches looks like it will be the same as the first time.

Diamond Creek vs. Mernda
The DC Demons nearly toppled the premiership favourites last game so they should be able to handle the Mushy Demons in this one.
Lower Plenty vs. Epping
This game will be a lot closer than their first encounter in Round 2, but it should produce the same result with the Bears beating the Blues for a second time.
Fitzroy Stars vs. Hurstbridge
On Sunday, the Stars, with nearly half a new side should be able to recapture some of their good recent form and account for the Bridges for a second straight time.
Lalor vs. Thomastown
The only game on next weekend's holiday weekend, but the result will still be the same. The outright premiership favourites in the Bloods to cruise home against a struggling Bears outfit.

Sydney Cres Oval will be a buzz this Sunday with the day dedicated to The call to Arms appeal... 2 piece band to follow the game and both team playing for the Broderick Shield - Paul Broderick wore both jumpers with pride during his playing days but his life was cut short a few years back and the day is in memory of him... Forecast is for 16 and sunny so if you’re not heading away and you need a local footy fix why not come and watch the undefeated Bloods at Sydney Cres...

Best wishes to the Mernda 2's player who went down early in the game, with what appears to be a badly broken ankle. One does have to ask, why did the ambulance take approx half an hour to arrive and treat the bloke?

Because there may have been a person who was in a life threatening situation, who would have been a higher priority than the player who had a broken bone!

If you had a family member in a life threatening situation and they died because an ambulance was sent to a footy ground to treat a player with a broken leg, how would you feel?

Yes we have more than one ambulance but that is life, when an ambulance is called they will prioitize.

Lalor 7.13-55 def. by Thomastown 8.9-57
:D no respect

Not a Great dat for the bloods and nothing taken away from the bears the much better outfit on the day... In fairness to the tipsters boys don't think you would have went with the bears stude and brutal.... The Chet is a great poster and it's a little harsh to take pots shots in hindsight... Well done bears and pick up the standard bloods... Interesting times ahead

My word they did, totally disrespected Thomastown, back fire yes, all it has done is made sure Mernda go to D3, would not have been the case if Lalor played their best side, they can rant and rave that they were injured etc....but once again they disrespected Thomastown and the NFL

Know for a fact that they didn't disrespect us. Deano isn't that sort of coach, he is very thorough. Am rapt with our win but we are still learning how the new coach wants us to play. Looking forward to next week against Lower, we went close first game and will be a good gauge to see where we are at. As for peoples tips and comments, unless they are involved in our club then they have no idea about our club and what our plan is going forward,

???? Foot, well and truly planted in mouth?????

Just realised my error there... The comments were a copy/reply from Chet wynd tips while trying to drum up some interest for the day... Foot unintentionally planted in mouth... Fair sledge though. :thumbsu:

Get ur facts right pal. Why would we give 7 players a week off after they had already had a week off?Full credit to Thomastown, they were the better side on the day .End of story.

Epping vs. Lalor
The Bloods will be smarting after last week's shock loss and the Blues can expect one hell of a game. The Blues have certainly improved in recent weeks but still may not be able to match the Bloods.

Thomastown vs. Lower Plenty
The Thommo Bears will certainly be on a high after last week's shock win while the Lowa Bears will certainly now know what they can expect at the big ground. While a couple of important outs may hurt the Lowa Bears I don't think we'll see another upset here.

Mernda vs. Hurstbridge
If the Demons want to stay in this division they have got to start winning - yeah an obvious statement - and maybe the week off could have done the trick. The Bridges just got over the line last game and may just do the same again this week.

Fitzroy Stars vs. Diamond Creek
If the Stars want to play finals they need to beat a top four team and on their own hill have the opportunity this week although the Demons are travelling very nicely thank you very much. So can't see the Stars starting their wins here.

was it lalor invovled in the scandal involving lower plenty a few years ago with a shock last round win to stay in div 1 ?

remember acusations of a few kegs being donated to the losing club by lower

That was a few years back now. Lalor was the team relagated that year !...Lower PLenty scored a "dubious" upset win over Heidelberg at heidelberg to stay in Div 1 and there was a lot of whispers about Lower Plenty paying off in kegs.:D

As above except for Epping to smash lalor :D

What a day that was! The big Fridge kicked 10, which was nearly 1 goal for every keg! Lalor lost to Northcote Park, then cried foul. Barrot and Cuff had to appear on the Footy Show and to this day, no one can or are not prepared to say one way or the other if it was true or not. I can honestly say, no one at Lower has ever confirmed it to be true and in all honesty back in those days Heidelberg were a good side that was sitting 4th on the ladder, which was not going to change. I think they rested quite a few that day and perhaps had there focus on the following week. We won 5 games that year against Mont, Epping, Lalor, Greensborough and Heidelberg. They were exciting times!

Probably best to be left with that aura of mystery and hint of scullduggery.:D Another tale of DVFL folklore to pass onto the young one's. :D

Maybe Brutal can confirm, ............

But I think folklore has it that the big Fridge grabbed the ball out of a boundary throw-in with time just about expired in the last quarter and snapped a goal over his shoulder in front of the Heidelberg faithful on the hill to win the game.

That would certainly add to the romance of the story, but alas we won by 70+ points.
