Not sure on what team to follow (EPL)

Am I missing something?
Man Utd still leading the league on points.

Goal difference mate. That season had one epic finale. I still remember watching Man City look all but finished, then they pull something incredible off. I don't barrack for City but I was excited watching those final moments. Definitely check it out as its one of the best final round we've had for quite some time.

Why go for a team in the prem? support a football league team, i suggest reading :)

What happens if Reading get promoted?

Too many people pay too much attention to league/league position. And too many seem to think that supporting a lower league club is a better kind of support.

Or that the more years your team has gone without a trophy, the more dedicated of a supporter you are.

If we get promoted again then happy days, but league position wasn't important when I chose them, if it was I'd be supporting one of the big 4

I've always felt slightly dodgy because whenever I mention I follow Arsenal I just get abused for picking a big club and being a bandwagon EPL follower, even though I know sweet FA about most other players and I only know the Arsenal players by checking the odd match report/playing FIFA.
I do have the connection though. English/Scottish heritage, some of the English lot are still not far from Highbury/Emirates and on the Scottish side they're all Glaswegians so I pick Celtic in the SPFL based on that vague knowledge :D
In all seriousness if you haven't got a connection just pick a team with a local player or with a name/kit you like. You'll develop the passion for them over time. It always has to start somewhere.

people having to defend their teams was always such a strange concept

if you pick, say lime fanta over orange fanta, usually you can say 'i just like it better' and that's the end of it. it should be like that with teams

why'd you pick chelsea?
because i liked them more than other teams.

there, done, finished. not having to go on some adventure as to why you liked the shade of blue the most, a player wore his socks at a certain height, your favourite letters spell chelsea, that sort of stuff. it seems to bother so many people and it's just strange.

Ridiculous! Leicester is clearly better than Man City and Arsenal because we have more League Cups! Jealous? :p

Well it's pretty obvious why someone would pick Chelsea so they really do have to come up with something so they can pretend there's an honourable and righteous reason behind their choice

The level of support is the only thing that matters.

I have much more respect for a United fan who watches every match, than a Fulham fan who watches 3 games a year.

And I've never watched my team on tv (Was working when they were on ESPN)
So would you say I'm a shit supporter despite being a member, paying for 10 junior season tickets for kids in Manchester and listen to all weekend games live on radio (**** weekday games, 4am is a little excessive)

Of course not?

When I say watch I don't mean exclusively on TV ... PC/Radio/Pub/BBC Feed ... whatever.

I don't think that's entirely fair, most of us have commitments outside of football which often mean we can't stay up till 4 am to watch our teams play. Theres some absolute idiots who turn up to Ewood Park week in week out, but that doesn't make them any better or worse than me as a Blackburn fan.

You shouldnt have to justify your support to anyone. If you're happy with how you support the club who cares what anyone else thinks?

If you're Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool then you'll get accused of being a bandwagoner. Chances are you might even be a bandwagoner. But who really cares?

Dirty Bird I like and respect you as a poster but it's like you're making out to be Robin Hood or something. Pretty much everyone respects your dedicated level of support. You don't need to question us continually asking if we think you're a shit supporter (which you're not)

Your team is 7th tier, we get it

Thank ****ing Christ someone said it.

It's almost like you're on a high horse DB and looking down at us because you don't support a well known club.

People care because quite often the blatant bandwagoners use their newly acquired team to inflate their own ego and parade around like a peaock. It makes watching the game in neutral venues across Australia extremely painful.

They are and should be called out on motivations for supporting that club.

I disagree. If people act like dicks, have a go at them for acting like dicks. Don't have a go at them for supporting a particular club.

FWIW calling out people for being bandwagoners isnt a bad thing, just a bit of banter. But no-one should take it too seriously.

It is if you want a more grass roots affiliation with your club.

I've sat down and had a few drinks with our owner/chairman and a few other fans in Melbourne last year(he lives in Melbourne for 6 months of the year).

It's also easier to become part of the community of fans.

Hell I had the local paper in England ring me up and do a piece on me in their paper for one round of the F A Cup when they asked for fans from around the world to join in the lead up to it.

You can't tell me you can get that close as a fan to the club and it's community with a team like Man Utd etc.

Supporting a lower league club doesnt entitle you to a grass roots affiliation with your club any more than supporting a premier league team.
