Illustrious Lad and Admiral will roll Keen Array not sure which i'll be on but look to have a fair bit of ability on him.

same can be said of Flying Artie not sure if i'll be on but if he's back in one piece even without improvement, nothing can touch him.

Going for value. I think Cellarman is overrated personally.

Usually I'm agreeing there. Just can't see anything beating it in this race.

I'll probably have a standout Tri/F4 with it being the standout.

The Caulfield cup has really fallen away. Heard that the final field of 18 and 4 emergencies might not even be made, first time since 1974. really goes to show the lack of depth in our stayers

Just briefly looking at the CC field and prices but Articus price is laughable. Should be the longest priced of the internationals and is challenging for second fave. People obviously backing him blind thinking they will get another Protectionist.

Single figures screams LAY

Paris youre back!

Nah still overseas in a non betting jurisdiction for a few days. The horror!

Just saw the final field and looked at the opening prices and had a WTF moment.

Jameka should win

Can you elaborate on your Articus opinion?

Supposedly the bloke who tipped Protectionist to win the MC has been spruiking Articus for the CC. I think people have just caught wind of this.

Agreed though, Jameka surely just wins with even luck.

Just noticed the Mckinnon is now being ran on Stakes, day... since when??
There's been a change in the Melbourne Cup Carnival schedule, so The Emirates which was held on the last day is now known as the Longines Mile and will be held on Derby Day. The Mackinnon will be now known as Emirates Stakes, and prizemoney doubled to $2mil , and that will be held on the last day of the carnival.

technically speaking about 1 in 10 people tipped protectionist to win the MC so it's not really a good guide. he also has much inferior race form and will be starting first up in his main assignment at a notoriously difficult track to navigate. german form can be a bit suspect at times and compared to Protectionist winning a main lead-up for the melbourne cup in the kergolay (a weak edition) Articus has stayed in germany since going to stakes level.
Ivanhowe IMO is a higher class german who's proven to get around caulfield and is 3x the price.

You know its a weak C Cup when Dufficy is tipping Sir John Hawkwood.

As for Articus, can anyone remember the last horse before Fawkner to win a CC without ever running at 2400m?

seth

On Articus, it's best not to underestimate German form these days. They don't have the depth, but their better horses tend to be pretty competitive.

I discounted Magic Artist last year, and his form didn't look any better than Articus's form. He would've won the MacKinnon with even luck and he was very competitive in the Emirates Stakes.

It's not a vintage Caulfield Cup. This guy's been very competitive in German WFA races. He's won over 2000m on 4 occasions. He's won twice and been placed once on good tracks.

I'll be surprised if he's not very competitive on Saturday. But i agree he's well found at $7.50.
