I was thinking that too, roey n bicks on aa think no worries....lets match them, too easy.
I smell a dirty rat from the cats ? Maybe an extra 200-300k extra on top of the number out in the open now.
At the end of next year the cap will go up big time (if it doesn't there will be a player strike - you can't double the TV right's money and then not pass that onto the players). The contract could very quickly become 6 or 7 million dollars.

Inb4whataboutgeelongsestablishedstarstheywillgetangryetc don't worry they'll get a bump too.

If Adelaide & Geelong are smart about this they will agree on a deal where Adelaide does not match Geelongs offer, Adelaide will get the compensation pick and then they will both do a further trade to sweeten the deal. A possibility could be Geelongs 1st round & 2nd round (either this year or next) for Adelaides 1st round compensation pick & perhaps a fringe player (I think a player would need to be involved for the AFL to give it the OK)

Just seems to easy for the crows to match. It's a lifestyle decision than a monetary decision....i hope the cats play hard.

Exactly, if it comes to this both clubs will realise that they can both profit out of this situation.

Something tells me that the 6 year 800k deal is trying to put out the feelers to see where Adelaide stand.

I smell another deal coming that will cause AFC to rethink there position
Won't happen. Something would have to change dramatically at Geelong. They are very adamant in there principles and see sticking to the payment plan as integral to success. There may be room to move between 800-850 or something but that would be it.

Yeah but it appears there is honour among thieves look at Tippet he didn't get to Sydney on the dodgy first deal but all other clubs hung off when he was up for grabs later on insuring he finally got to the club of his choice in the end.And what did you get?
Tippett was over priced. Danger isn't. Any of the team before you would take him (well the melbourne ones). I would be more worried about Collingwood than Carlton.
It was a hypothetical. I was asking your take on the rules.

We wouldn't leave it to that chance, it would simply be that if Adelaide were asking the world for PD then Geelong would look at doing a trade with Brisbane/Gold Coast for pick 3 in the draft. Carlton won't pick PD as pick 1 as they want Weitering. In this case it would be in Adelaides best interest to be reasonable at the trade table or risk getting nothing for him

Sorry but I don't think any club in their right mind would take a player who doesn't want to be there.

It's contract not picks?

Sorry to intrude. Your board if referred quite heavily on ours atm!
If he goes to PSD any club between Carlton and you can take him for what ever he rejects after a trade cannot be completed and goes into the PSD?
eg Geelong offer 850k for 6 years, If Adelaide match he can either stay or goto the PSD?
So Carlton could match 850k over 6 and get him for that and can't leave for 2 years?

I'm not really sure.
If cats offer 850/6, you match and he goes to the PSD im not entirely sure if he can nominate a different price?
He may put up 3 mil over 2 years as his price knowing only the Cats could match, but then if they could do that why didn't they in the first place?

He can nominate a completely different price and term (min. 2 years) if he goes to the PSD.

would be great, but the AFL won't OK it. Other clubs will get shitty. But I agree, pay us slight overs for another player or something just for good will.

Brilliant 1st post - I reckon you are right on the money there.

Maybe when they say Patty wants to go home he literally wants to play in Moggs Creek and is quitting the AFL all together. There's a plot twist for you.
Going to Captain/Coach Anglesea next year you heard it here first

Jesus, stay clear of the Adelaide board. It's like he's ran over all their dogs. They are mental.
They have created a shit storm for themselves really. They were so desperate for him to say they took every word he said and every action literally... I mean FFS he had a goofy photo with Brodie Smith when they were getting coffee and people saw that as definitely staying.

Now they feel they have been lied to and he was trolling them all along... the trolling line in particular is as I have said a few times one of the most ridiculously stupid things I have ever read on Bigfooty

But the wound is still fresh so go easy on them.... they'll look back at this and realise how misguided they were

Can we close this thread now... I'm over it.

It's hard to get any more excited when I've known for 12 months. :)

Really?! That would be pick 9 and pick 27 (as it stands right now), which according to the draft index comes to a valuation of Paddy D at pick 4 overall, seems pretty unfair for arguably a top 3 player in the comp
Yeah - they might get 2 R1 picks but only one of them will come from us ;)
