I'm surprised there's a lack of hawthorn flogs on this board this week. Maybe they view this as a danger game.

It's funny how they've all changed their tune RE burgoyne now that they've seen him play

We have lost the last 2 games to you guys and 1 was at the G, so i dont think the Burgoyne will make a huge diference if we play like we did in rounds 2-7, we should win but there is not 1 Hawks fan that is 100% confidant not only about this game but for every game we play, we have been crap for 19 months now...:(

PAFC only critical decision is Salter for Motlop otherwise can't really complain with selection there.

Salter is our prime sole tall forward tartget, unless Chad is to be a swing man again.

Far out. Motlop and Hartlett both back in - playing underdones again, whatever their ability.

Wishem the bestoluck though, and may they both have blinders.

Surely he will be. Jarryd Roughead is the Hawks' only genuine tall forward, and Wayde Skipper is really the only other possible tall forward. Chad can help stretch their tiny defence if we chuck him up forward, and he won't be needed in defence.

'B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Grant Birchall, Luke Hodge, Ben Stratton
C: Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell, Clinton Young
HF: Chance Bateman, Jarryd Roughead, Michael Osborne
F: Cyril Rioli, Carl Peterson, Brendan Whitecross
Foll: Brent Renouf, Brad Sewell, Shaun Burgoyne
I/C: Xavier Ellis, Rick Ladson, Liam Shiels, Wayde Skipper'

That would have to be one of the shortest line-ups ever assembled.

Would be a bit harsh to drop Motlop after serving the club imposed suspension. I tend to think (like many others) he is on "last chance street".
Sad for Salter to miss-out.

Motlop and Ebert at the G as lead-ups in the forward 50 would be difficult for Hawthorn to match up against (provided the conditions suit and the delivery is good ).

Midfield really need to be up and about for this one.
Match-ups elsewhere are good.

Underdone
Steven Salopek
Brett Ebert
Dean Brogan
Hamish Hartlett
Daniel Motlop

Could have been replaced after last week's effort or previously
David Rodan - at the game I watched him chase his player, avoidance behaviour.
Alipate Carlile - some real all-team pressure would help the tall backs out
Troy Chaplin - some real all-team pressure would help the tall backs out
Jackson Trengove - yes, I know he is young
Tom Logan
Danyle Pearce
Jason Davenport - would much prefer Salter forward, though Jason can run all day

Carr was one of our best last week, so I assume he is being dropped for giving the youngsters a go.

IMHO Salter should be having a chance before Trengrove who, along with others, I think is being pushed too hard physically too early in his career - Mr Everywhere man.

Sigh apparently Brogan is underdone because he was a late withdrawl because of a back injury caused by getting into his car? Why is Ebert underdone? Concussion early in one game and he came back.... Motlop? Played SANFL, was praised for his fitness levels by his SANFL coach and missed one game because he woke up in the middle of the night to pick up his girlfriend from the airport. Salopek? Shoulder injury in the game but came back.

Hartlett is the only from that last that is seriously underdone.

Just heard Primus on the 5AA go thru our team.

Lobbe is the travelling emergency to cover if Broges has any problems.

He was asked (by Rowe I think) who was going to play the Tredrea power forward role and he sounded completely dumb founded to me with his answer.

I can't recall any discussion why Salter was given the flick.

He said Daniel Stewart would be given a few games.

He said Hartlett has been eased back and given extra time to get back rather than rushed back and had to come back thru SANFL.

Much to many disgust the impression I got also was it's either Trengove or Lobbe.

Salter should have been up forward, one Power forward is so 2004 :)

MacGyver couldn't fashion a forward structure with what we have available, let alone Cripps'n'Bloods. :(

Don't see how anyone can complain about that team. Motlop is just about our best forward, so unfortunately Salter had to be squeezed out. Pretty simple really.

Motlop to kick 5 in a BOG performance

Either this or to kick 1 at most and be absolutely awful. IMO there's not really going to be any middle ground with Mots this week. I hope you're right.

So this is the rub....one ruckman with a dodgy back, but that is okay, we only need one going forward, no point wasting valuable time with a young ruck to get experience, or expose the oppostions lack of ruck stocks.
We only need one tall forward, who in his first season of AFL should be good to carry the load left by Tredrea. Forget playing a guy who has better goalkicking form in the SANFL, as lets face it, he was shit on a halfback flank in the mud and rain last week.

Loving it.

So who did you want left out for Salter? If he's fit Mot's has to play. And for those Lobbists, who would you like out for Lobbe to play?

No Lobbe again...

Bloody Motlop straight back in what a disgrace, hope he has a blinder and kicks at least 4. I'm not holding my breath. With Mot's its either brilliant game or waste of space and lately it seems to be the latter.

I think the forward line looks good on paper, if that's how they line up. Trengove & Stewart could be our KPF of the next 10 years.

Match up well on the Hawks, but after the last couple of weeks I think I'll just support them and hope for the best. Hopefully we at least put up a fight, if Brog's plays hope he can put one of those big bumps on Jr.

Unlucky for Carr, but he really is a horses for courses at this stage of his career.

Is that from an individual player Vs player or team structure point of view?
The answers are very, very different depending on what the question is.

Don't agree, if Motlops attitude is right he has to play - I don't think it is. Would of preferred to see Salter stay.

I think we've been at least one tall short for the majority of the year, so wouldn't mind seeing Logan dropped for Lobbe. But if it had to be a tall I'd swing trengrove into the back line (or let Chad play CHB and Chaplin at FB)and drop Bob.

...
Motlop is unfit. The only way to get him fit in time for the finals, should we make them, is to play him.
We have done it before with Pickett and we need to do it now with Motlop.

Not sure why Mots has to play. He has been a basket case this season. Lets see if he can play and perform and show some interest at SANFL level before we annoint him with a Gold Card. Salter for Motlop until he shows some fight.

I would like to see a forward line that includes Salter, Stewart and Trengove at CHF, and Lobbe in the ruck. Work around that!

:thumbsu:Agree like that setup.

Hell yeah!

This is the structure that had us looking so good in the NAB cup.

And I am not against Mots being in that foward line, I just think at the moment he needs to prove he wants to be in the team. Make him earn a spot. I would like to see how that forward line works for a few weeks, give it a chance, not one shot and you are out. These guys are our hope (Butcher maybe in the future as well) for a functional forward line moving forward. With Hitchcock, Dav, Mots and the like roving to these guys in that forward line.

But what do I know......
