no Salter eh

HE'S the blame

all the misery from the last 6 years, and last 3 weeks, and we brin ghim in for a mud slog and pull him out of a dry game

thats it. i officially dont give a f*ck about this club anymore

choco is an arrogant 1 dimensional 1 trick pony and the players got a flag IN SPITE of his best efforts to teach them to choke and play a non finals game

he's failed miserably since then, miserably

we've built no ruck replacement, no forwards, and we dont even know if tweedle carlisle and tweedle chaplin are half decent

either sakc him, spill the board or get rid of half the team

i hope we lose by 100 and burgoyen gets BOG

i HATE this

this club gives nothing to its supporters but disappointment

Salter was the most predictable out of anyone this week. He can kick 10 in the SANFL and still not get a look in for a forwardline crying out for a guy who can kick a bag. Why not?

Lobbe has the same problem. Which club doesn't blood young guys to take over from the players on their last legs? Only ours.

Looks like Broadbent can join this club too. As good as Hartlett is it makes far more sense to ease him in and give a game to a guy who is deserving.

I don't particuarly like our forward line :(

Love Snowy but I don't think we have enough talls.. I guess Trengove will probably be playing up there a lot.

I wonder who our late change will be? My moneys on Lobbe/Salter for Hartlett.

Hartlett has to come in, we look so much better in defense with his poise and skills.
We have missed him immensely since he went out injured. That game against St Kilda when Krakour went out and he came into the side, our defense looked so much more composed. 15 of Hartlett's possessions are better than 59000 of Krak's and Kornes.
We have missed his coolness in the back half in recent weeks.

Broadbent I am a big fan of, great clearance player and great finishing skills. I would prefer him over Logan but Logan will get another crack at Hodge I assume due to his efforts last year.

One player who Choco really needs to have a look at is Matt Thomas, some of his disposals this year have been of Port Elliot standards.

I am dumbfounded on why we don't persist with Lobbe, Trengove should be played forward as we are wasting him in the ruck.

We're still at least one tall (i.e. Lobbe) short and the side would look much better with our two crumbing forwards (Gray and Hitchy).

From the 22 named, I'd like to see us line up like this:

B: Surjan (for Rioli).....Carlile (Mr Unreliable)......Stewart

HB: Nash (can he keep up his good form?).....Chaplin......Hartlett

C: Salopek.......Boak........Pearce (Needs to lift bigtime)

HF: Chad.....Trengove......Rodan

F: Davenport......Stewart.....Ebert

R: Brogan......Kornes (for Mitchell)......Cassisi

Int: Broadbent......Logan......Thomas......Motlop

In an ideal world, one of those bench warmers would make way for Lobbe.

If Carlile's form was more solid, I'd be pleased with that backline.

Our underperforming midfield is really only missing the part-time service of Gray and the support of Lobbe, yet it looks like a major weakness.

Our forward line is the huge worry though. Virtually no goal-scoring power on this year's form.

I'm with you PJ. Ever since they dropped Schulz and replaced him with a runner for the Essendon game at the Dome we've been out of balance.

And it's almost criminal what the coach is doing to Trengove. With bugger all footy (even training) behind him over the past two years he's having to be an undersized support ruck and about our only effective tall key forward option. Last week he had to ruck in a bog - how tough is that on the kid's legs when he is relying on his leap to provide a contest?

Our forward line would look a little more potent if it was allowed to settle into a structure that scores goals rather than always being forced to rely on individual exploits.

I agree. If Trengove gets a serious injury because of the way he has been flogged into the ground instead of playing Lobbe.....:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

At least him and Brogan can work on their angry faces on the sidelines together as they both enjoy being run into the ground by Choco refusing to play Lobbe.

I must have missed the fact that Broady was out as well.......ffs. I give up. Hope we get pummelled this week, I have had enough really. We have the dumbest match commitee/coach in the AFL. Either that or they are taking the piss out if us.

Where did you hear that Broady is out?

In one of the other posts on here about Logan being in for the match up on Hodge and Hartlett having to come back in? I hope I am wrong (or I have interpreted it wrong).

Interchange: Matthew Broadbent, Jason Davenport, Hamish Hartlett, Daniel Motlop
Emergencies: Matthew Lobbe, Danny Meyer, Nick Salter
In: Davenport, Hartlett, D Motlop, Brogan
Out: Cameron Hitchcock (shoulder), Justin Westhoff, Josh Carr, Nick Salter (all omitted)

Logan was already named in the 18.

Well that is a small relief then.

My amusement at the non-selection of Matthew Lobbe is that Port Adelaide has been the envy of the AFL for our ruck stocks. Primus, Lade and Brogan are all exceptional players. Other than injury Port Adelaide carried two designated ruckman into most matches.

Right now we carry one specialist ruckman and attempt to play a young player we seem intent on playing as a utility rather than settling him into a position that allows him to develop.

My problem is if Brogan goes down for a stretch we're left with Jackson Trengove.. a key position player in the ruck and an untried Matthew Lobbe defending the fort by themselves.

There's been no succession planning in terms of actual AFL game time development.

You play two specialist rucks. There's no ifs or buts about that. Even at the height of Dean Cox's power West Coast still played Mark Seaby. It's an absolute no brainer.

We've got a massive hole in our ruck development at the moment and it's entirely due to the failure of Giles/Deluca and the dodgy knees of Minson.

If even one of these guys had worked out, even at a just-serviceable standard, we'd have that link between our #1 ruck and the youngsters coming up.

I've said it before but they are obviously taking no risks with Lobbe until they're certain his body can stand up to the constant battering of rucking in the AFL. Hence the Westhoff experiment. (Note that I'm not advocating this experiment, just outlining why I think they are making the decisions they are.)

What I don't understand is why they're not using Cloke as a pinch-hitting, ruck/forward more than they have.

I think Logan's game last year saved his bacon this week.

If Broady keeps playing like last week he shoudl cement his place in our side, hopefully in the midfield.

Many of us have said similar in the past, however to steal from FF, all we are doing is squaring up a round hole to make things fit.
If looking after our younger players was the issue we would not be running Trengove into the ground. He is younger and smaller than Lobbe, has had less pre seasons, and he has only just recovered from a major injury.

Nope, not the case.

The rumblings are getting louder that Brogan will be out again.

Not much to add on this link, nothing we didn't already know. Lobbe is on standby and if Dean wakes up sore tomorrow, then he will probably be replaced.

My question is if Brogan is borderline as far as finess goes, why risk agrivating it further - flying him to Melbourne and sleeping in a foreign bed aren't a good way to protect him.

IMO it might of been a better idea to give him another week off, to try and get more improvement in the injury. Wouldn't of been a bad week to have Lobbe as the #1 ruck seeing Hawthorn are struggling with that position.

So why is it then?

Are they anti Lobbe? (see Salter)
Do they think he is just "not good enough"? (see Cloke)
Is he injury prone? (see Hartlett)

What is the reason the selection panel are only going with one established ruckman?

I don't accept that it is simply incompetence. They must have a rationale for their strategy. Mustn't they?

never mind just the ruck, there was no succession planning with the defenders, the forwards AND the coach

the club should have groomed hardwick and sacked choco

HE'S the common element in our miserable failure of a club
