Re GWS and Boyd, I think it's more about GWS showing they will be resilient against any club who trys to poach their young talent. They probably know in the back of their minds Boyd for Griffen is good but don't want to open the flood gates....

I agree. Even if we don't get Boyd, we absolutely must trade Griffen for pick 4 at the very minimum. If we do keep Griffen next year, then those flog opposition supporters will come over and laugh their faces off and our club would deserve every bit of it. I would be absolutely sick.

I don't think it will be that

Yeah, I find it odd that people think since Boyd favours us that we now have the upperhand in all negotiations with GWS - and so if GWS refuses to release Boyd that means Picks 4 & 7 are coming our way. I see no evidence for that at all. In fact I increasingly see GWS acting petulant, so they could well offer even less for Griffen than they were going to. I'm starting to think that the most likely scenario is no deal at all. I couldn't disagree more with those who feel that GWS need this trade to happen. I don't think GWS give a toss what their trading reputation is. In a year or two they won't be needing to attract marquee players - their entire list will be marquee players. And it will only be a year or two before Griffen is surpassed by many of their midfielders. If I was GWS I would walk away from this deal if the price wasn't right for them. And if the price is right for them, it won't be for us.

Having said that, if the AFL get in their ear or they are deluded and they DO offer us Pick 4 + a decent player or Pick 4 + Pick 7, I think we should grab it and run as fast as we can. I couldn't disagree more about "proving a point". We prove a point when we nab Boyd - either now or at the end of 2015. Anything else is just cutting off our nose to spite our face. I don't believe in "making points" with trading. I believe in "money talks and bullsh!t walks".

Let's get what we can for Griffen and start the climb back!

I am extremely concerned that if Boyd is left until next year, we will not get him... Believe me, there'll be numerous clubs waiting for him with open cheque books!!! If we can't get the Boyd deal done, I'm hoping that we trade Griffen to another club, (not GWS), just to show strength...
