Official Club Stuff Official: Tom Boyd officially a Bulldog for Griffen & Pick 6

Boyd wants:

1. A team in melbourne
2. A shitload of cash
3. A quality young list he can grow with .

Gws won't have as many genuine suitors next year as they think.

All of that...and he wants to be the number 1 banana - the focal point of the forward line. Reduce the number of eligible suitors even further.

Pickers will have already approached all of the other clubs who might also tick the boxes and it has come down to us. Pickering and Boyd haven't just risen to take the first fly to be cast.

Regardless of Boyd or Picker's 'commitment' to the Dogs next year, 12 months is a 'long time in football' and things do change...

Picker's wasn't that convincing in his commitment to the Dogs at the end of next year... Listen to his interview again on trade radio when he responds to the question relating to Boyd's commitment to the Dogs at the end of next year if a trade isn't done this year...

Hmmmmmm

It is us and.... well us.... ummmm
Nah seriously, we are going to get competition from Pies, Blues and Tigers. St K & Dees are just too far behind us.

My guess is the Griffen trade will happen tomorrow. We should get pick 4 and one of pick 19 or 24. I don't want a player as well unless he's a very good one. Don't like the idea of receiving 2nd level players in sweetener trade deals.
If we can take 4, 6, 19 or 24, 26 and 27 to the draft that will do me. A pick upgrade for a Cooney trade could be a bit of icing on top.

Weren't we offered #4, #19 and 2 fringe players? Griffen for #4 and #24 would slightly annoy me IF that offer reported was "official".

Where do 19 and 24 come from?

When asked if he was going to be a Bulldog next year he said "Yep.....that will be the plan".

Now you can't guarantee anything of course, 12 months is a long time, but that is a definitive as you can be.

When pressed by Wallace who didn't think Boyd would get to the dogs next year anyway, Pickering said along the lines of well time will tell but he's is a very strong willed kid.

I think it's pretty clear that he wants to come to the dogs. That's as convincing as you can get. Nothing is certain.

They currently have 19 which is being upgraded to pick 7. Then they will have 4 & 7 and they should be trading that to us for Griffen but my guess is that they are going to trade those to St K for pick 1 and then offer us like pick 30 something for Griffen that they will get in change from St K. At that point, they have burnt Griffen's management firm, Boyd's management firm and told the rest of the competition that their players are beyond trade value, so the players will have to leave via preseason draft.

Pick 19 is Carltons - well will be after today and 24 GWS are using on Steele

Just listening to Pickering's interview on Trade radio yesterday, I get the impression (and I think on one occasion Pickering more or less said) if the Boyd/Griffen trade doesn't happen, then Boyd will be playing for GWS and Griffen will be playing for the Bulldogs in 2015.

To get Boyd to come out and declare for us now, when he still has a year to run on his contract, has an agreement been reached between Boyd and WB? Boyd may have agreed via a heads of agreement he will come to the Bulldogs either this season or next and in return we will move heaven and earth to get him to WB for the 2015 season, even if it means we can't trade Griffen because GWS won't trade Boyd this year.

He also said that "Tom will be seeking a trade to the Western Bulldogs at the end of the 2015 season".

I'm not sure how much more definitive he could have been.

The irony of all this is;
If next Griffen takes Tom Boyd under his wing,
makes friends with him...
puts the ball down his throat every week....
and tells Boyd to steer clear of the Bulldogs and stay a Giant....

Doh!!

What we can all gather from this situation (something that we can all relate to is) Tom likes

1. Money (which we all do)
2. Company of Friends
3. Young talented lists which he can grow with.

We are in the box seat to give him all 3.

This years draft strategy.
  • Draft all his friends who can kick a football with later picks and load up the early picks with talent that can hit him on the chest lace out in 2016.
  • If his friends are completely hopeless at football make up some BS job that they can work at the club, waterboy, interior decorator I don't give a **** any position they can fill they get.
  • Have him buy weekly dinners for all his young teammates who aren't on the same salary as he is plus pay for drinks on overseas trips.

If Boyd cost us Griffen + #6 + 850k per year (After GWS press releases I can't see it being anything less) it would essentially make us end up with:
Boyd (850k per year) + #26 + #27
If we traded Griffen for #4 and #19 which is more than reasonable and didn't get Boyd we would go into the draft with #4, #6, #19, #26 and #27
So It's basically Boyd vs #4 (Wright), #6 (Lever) and #19 (Duggan, De Goey, Menadue or Cockatoo). I rate Boyd as the second best KPF prospect in the league so would be very, very happy with him even if it cost us Griffen + #6 (worst result) but geez his going to cost us alot money/pick wise. Makes me content either way, worst result for me is to hang onto Griffen.

My point is if we don't end up with Boyd it isn't all doom and gloom, hopefully we end up with BOTH Wright and Lever as well as a few other good picks (#19, #26, #27, #44 and Cordy) and have a huge of $$$$ at the end of next season. FWIW though I think this is the year to get Boyd too much changes in 12 months.

WE MUST DO THE DEAL THIS YEAR.
If we don't get the Boyd/Griffen swap deal done this year next year Boyd still wants to come to us, we offer our first round pick, say 5, and we do want/need him. GWS's options could be shop him around for the best deal for them, loose him in the PSD or play hard ball with us. Hard ball could be pick 5 and a young midfielder, maybe Macrae or Bonti.

Who would we be willing to give to GWS to complete the deal?

But 19 is being traded to Carlton, it will be pick 7 and GWS have said they will not trade picks 4 & 7 which for us has to be a minimum

Yeah i forgot about that :/ been up to early. Maybe #4 and #7 for Griffen and #26 but even just #4 on its own for Griffen we end up with Boyd or Wright and Lever. Either way as long as we end up with McCartin/Wright and Lever OR get a deal for Boyd ill be a happy man.

So what are GWS willing to give us then? They want Griffen but won't give us Boyd, won't give us 4 + 7, won't give us 19 because they need it for a different deal? Sounds to me like they don't want Griffen that badly
