Yeah, I was thinking Gilbert as well. He's from the Tweed, or around there from memory.

Compo pick/s would come in handy. Especially if this year's draft is not the strongest, as has been reported.

I might also be a matter of being injured all year where this supposed "home sickness" comes from and playing only 2 games? If he plays 15-20 games next year he will probably settle and stay on the Gold Coast. It would be mentally challenging for an 18 year old to be drafted go interstate and be injured the whole time.

My money is Caddy staying :)

edit: if however it is true, and there was no club nominated, would we look towards getting a deal done with collingwood for one of macaffer/beams?

Beams not on the market unfortunately according to quotes in The Bulletin last week. Has no plans on returning to the Goldy. The Suns made big plays for him in 2009, 2010 and nothing has changed apparently... Macaffer however is still tradable according to rumour. Similar mold to Monfries I guess? Tomorrow will reveal all, glad it's the last day so this can't drag out...

Ahh I see. Hard to get a player consistently getting games from a successful side.

187cm, 92kg. More similar to Danny Stanley I reckon, but definitely fits what we are looking for. If we got him, I would be stoked.

Agreed with the last part, especially with the whole Caddy situation.

Would you guys be happy with our Pick 15+ Compo Pick+one of either Mguane, Morton or Jackson?
If there not happy with Essendon's Pick 19, +compo pick, + Slattery/Dyson/Jenkins then they're not going to be happy with that either.

Someone mentioned a Monfries trade, I'd be happy with this. Monfries + pick 19 for Caddy?

Where the hell did Essendon get a compo pick from?

I'll stand to be corrected but I'm certain you do not have one, therefore your proposal of pick 19 + Slattery/Dyson/Jenkins is a rubbish offer. Those 3 players are delistee candidates.

Starting to look like Essendon are a team not worth dealing with, want the world and not willing to give anything. Personally I hope we hold onto him and take the risk rather than sell him for rubbish in return

They're trying to get it from Brisbane (which they received from Richa coming to us).

Agreed with those players as well. Said it for the past couple days, 2 average players don't equal a good one.

All teams at the trade table seem to puff their chests out like they are the high almighty when there can be reasonable and fair deals completed. Everyone wants too much and you have to look no further than this trade period to see that, particularly as most of the players have been of very average quality i.e. no superstar on the market.

I too think GC will take the chance and retain him rather than gifting him up.

What the hell can they possibly offload to Brisbane to acquire that pick? They won't offload quality players or quality young players and nobody is interested in their rubbish.

They're dreamin'....

Amateur negotiators/managers. Last year they offered Travis Cloke an extra 50k per year to leave Collingwood in favour of Essendon. They simply have no idea how to get things done.

Mate I would love this trade, now all we have to do is convince Monfries he wants to leave Essendon ;)

the only problem essendon would have then is goal kicking midfielder/forwards :)

i hope richmond offers 15+bock compo and a player that gold coast can use but wouldn't cost richmond too much like morton; tremendous talent just lacks the application

:thumbsu: Monfries is exactly the sort of player Gold Coast need , would compliment the developing talls really well.

Seems Caddy is going no-where, barring a massive backflip from Ashcroft and his minions.

I'd wager the club has talked this over with Josh and believe they can work out whatever personal issues he has while staying at GC. This has been the case before with a handful of other young players, and will be the same again I wager.

It's clear that the club back themselves up to re-sign him next year, that's for sure. They haven't led us astray just yet, so I have faith in them to do the right thing.

Would not be surprised to see him do chunks of his pre-season in Melbourne though. The club is very accommodating with letting players go home after all, and I would imagine they would set up a special routine for Josh to follow down in VIC.

This is going to cause a huge back-lash. 10 dollars says that people are going to call GC heartless for not letting him go to a Melbourne club right away.

Other supporters have already played the guilt card, labelling it a 'dog act' if we don't let him return home.

Good news, if indeed he is staying. I can already see the type of player he'll become throughout his career, and I'd love to experience that week in week out for the next 10 or so years. We can only hope...

I'm starting to not like this Robbo guy. How can someone with so little facts create something like that? Essendon is the only club to approach the Suns about a trade, and now all of a sudden he's nominated them as his preferred club? Lunacy.

From everything I've read and heard from interviews (with him himself), Caddy loves it on the Coast. If the Suns think they can help him through it, I trust them to be able to do just that. They clearly think that they can, and he must be willing for it too, or he'd be traded away. Simple as that.

@Sunny: I've disliked him for a while, and when he started having a go at us after our 3rd game, that's when it grew into hatred. Do not care for him or his opinions at all.

Funny that, I've been looking over some old interviews with Caddy when he was first drafted in the past hour or so.

@CATACK: Don't really know much about Gillies. Isn't he the guy who wanted to go to the Hawks earlier in the week?

As I said earlier before this came out. Caddy will go if not 2012 it will be 2013. He wants to go home and not too happy that GC will not trade him. Of course if he can't be traded he will stay and play good footy but when he is out of contract next he will try again and we might not get much for him at all.
I hope the GC do the right thing and respect his wishes and help him return to Melbourne but at this stage they are playing hardball.

Yeah he is, but i dont think Geelong will trade with Hawthorn.
