Either way, everyone knows we're going to struggle next season so attendances aren't going to be great regardless. Less Friday night games won't impact on that imo.

I've got absolutely no problem with the AFL taking them off us though. This line was damning:

The slap in the face from AFL headquarters comes after the Blues played six Friday night games this year for zero wins and an average losing margin of 75 points.

Hard to blame them really, that is atrocious for every stakeholder.

Love the way the media always have to bring stats into the debate to prove a point!!! :$

I for one am perfectly happy for us to take a back seat in terms of airtime while we start our rebuild. The last thing our new coaching panel and young list needs is the flogs in the media mercilessly crucifying the team for poor performances, and the spotlight would be well and truly on us every Friday game we played.

Let Bolton and Co. go about their business quietly, and once we gather a bit of momentum we can shoot back into primetime and silence all the critics.

Might have to ask the Wookie but I think you'd find that our Friday night matches this season didn't rate particularly well. Except for maybe the Hawthorn game where everyone tuned in to laugh at us
I thought our TV ratings weren't that bad, perhaps I was just hoping.

I heard on the radio this morning that Kevin Sheedy has come up with another game changer. The country match when Essendon play Geelong. The irony was I heard as a tribute to the country folk we will play this game in the city at the MCG.....what the ****???

Only one thing worse than being talked about, that is not being talked about.

Looking forward to seeing Essendon supporting surrounding farming towns like Niddrie, Pascoe Vale and Airport West.

Poor farmers up that way haven't seen a lick of rain since Thursday........:drunk:

Depends what they're saying.

The less public criticism of our new players (via trade or draft) the better. They're going to make mistakes, there is going to be a learning curve, and they're going to have to fight through it. They certainly don't need to have their names and faces plastered across the back page of the paper with the headline "Bolton's Blues: going backwards?".

You know as well as I do that there are media personalities who would love nothing more than to stick the boots in while we're down. By taking a back seat for a year, we limit their capacity to damage our players, coaches and brand any further than we have already managed to do.

And as an added benefit, it seems the club has recognised that this will be a good opportunity to shift our focus towards becoming family-friendly - so hopefully we'll see a bit of innovation there as well.

Okay, by what game will Slobbo use the headline, "Carlton's Giant Blue"?

Wonder how many Friday Night games Essendon will get?. Below is where they ended at the end of each season since 2008.Based on these results they should get the same as Carlton. Now they have Sheedy spruiking another match for Essendon to add to their other two closed shop matches that they monopolise, along with their Friday Night matches. Essendon has always been a protected species in the eyes of the AFL. Now that Hird is gone everything will be back to the status quo with Essendon getting everything they want. Slobbo and Smith spuiking Essendon every chance they get.

Except thats not how its worked. The advantage we've had as a club over the years has been our exposure as a big club. Once its gone, you dont get it back. It disturbs me that people are actively advocating for us not to be in prime positions, and shows to me that not only are we irrelevant to the league, but the clubs supporters and members actively want the club to be irrelevant. I get why the AFL has done it, I dont understand why our own people would want it.

I look forward to being on Foxtel a lot in the future, and you lot all being entirely ok with it when our clubs sponsorship and gete receipts drop off.

Swings and roundabouts, Wook.

We drop off, a club like the Western Bulldogs get a much better deal. By the time we're pushing into finals again, there'll be another couple of clubs struggling and they can get shafted in favour of us.

I want us to deserve primetime. I'd like that to be the case now, but we're a long way off it.

Should we have ZERO Friday night games? Nah, I think that's an extreme reaction. But I'm happy with a more "family-friendly" fixture for a year or two to give the big wigs at the club the kick up the backside that they need.

I am not sure I quite understand the desire for obscurity and irrelevance.

Carlton is a big Melbourne Club - supporters have had enough - as of three years ago and Malthouse's appointment -to see many ease off on memberships and poor performance on field has seen numbers fall off. the truth is that most members and supporters wouldn't know hat BF is - people on here take what is posted on here as being representative of Carlton supporters- the reality is we are the die hard fanatics..

The truth is that most people don't find watching their team getting smashed week in week out to be anything worthwhile or fun...losses people can take - but watching an noncompetitive side groan its way to another ten+ goal smashing week in week out- is NOT fun...and they don't wish to waste time with frustration and embarrassment..

Start being competitive and show some promise - and the crowds will be back - because at least having a chance to win makes the expense and hassle worthwhile..start winning against top sides and Carlton crowds will be back to top numbers...have no doubt - the Carlton brand is a a powerful force..

Carlton ISN'T Collingworth OR Richmond - the demographics and history are totally different - closer to EssenDONE - and unfortunately used to be more like Hawthorn.

Give it a 40 games - we will be back - hopefully with a killer instinct - that is what Carlton supporters want to see.

If you don't agree with moves the club makes what better way to make noise is to talk with your money and viewing

After the mess our board created I don't blame people for falling away. Up to the club to fix it.

Win games, hell even prove we have direction, people will come back again.

Glad a couple of people understand this.

The admin have to say something positive but they know this is a massive blow to the organisation.

We're being punished...

Ok, we deserve less primetime, fair enough.
But totally stripped of Friday night games is over the top.
Surely one or two would've been fairer?

It's a massive hit on our bottom line and to make matters worse, we draw Hawthorn, first round of NAB challenge.
...Just so the media have ammo to tee off on us.

I have an ugly ugly feeling the AFL want one less team in Melbourne.
The way it's going,...if things don't change rather quickly, we'll be in massive trouble.
We cant afford a five year rebuild. We need to be top 8 competitive by mid 2017.

We must have p***** off head office big time!

Hey all, is anyone on here involved in the south australian supporters group or know of anyone that could point me in the right direction? I would like to join next year and get my family involved. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Bit doomsday Wook. Hawthorn were a shambles not that long ago and they've certainly got it back. The Dogs had zero Friday night games for a couple of years and yet they've got them. Success is what gets it back.

I would suggest people are looking at it holistically from an AFL perspective rather than with the 'We are Carlton - **** the rest' mentality. Nobody wants to watch the wooden spooners get thumped in a standalone time spot. I'll be much happier next season watching a competitive game after work on a Friday night and then watching us play on a Saturday arvo or Sunday arvo. Rather than wanting to change channels (but never being able to) after quarter time.

Also, 'you lot' is over the top. We're all supporters of the same football club, wanting the same thing. Just because people have differing opinions and all that...

I understand you're pissed off but the club got itself into this mess, not the AFL.
