Reports that Eddie also made a speech about tolerating selfishness and that 2011 was the last time they were 'side by side'...awkward for Nafan
Although this would not have been a slight on Buckley from his #1 fan, I think it very much indicates the Magpies hierarchy's recognition of how the club has fallen away in the last 2 seasons, something which would not have been anticipated given the average age of the 2010 premiership winning team (24 years, 1 month).

The Magpies were primed for a period of dominance under MM's coaching, but because of a knee-jerk reaction by McGuire to talk of Buckley finding his way to another club, a huge opportunity was lost & in the process a significant part of the core of that 2010 team has been/will be lost to the club & it would seem Buckley carries a fair bit of the responsibility for this.

It is all good & well for Buckley/McGuire to talk about improving the culture of the club, but you have to look a little deeper to see this is not all it is cracked up to be. Thomas & Shaw are allowed to go (after Dawes & Wellingham last year), Jolly is forced into retirement, whilst at the same time an outsider (Hudson) is given a contract extension. O'Brien gets to stay despite chucking a hissy fit at the coach during the season, Swan stays despite being the least likely to fully buy into the 'side by side' slogan & Marley Williams, who faces criminal charges for a serious assault, is elevated to the senior list. I don't see a cultural change, I see a coach who has lost a certain group of players & rather than doing the hard yards to win them back (not for a moment do I suggest letting the tail wag the dog), would rather hurt the club by moving them on, than take a good hard look at himself.

Perhaps like Ratts, Buckley is a very good assistant coach (both have now won premierships as assistant coaches), but does not have the man management skills to be a successful senior coach.

Bucks being appointed senior coach was a SERIOUS mistake. He took over at the worst possible moment, ie when the pies were flying and the players were 100% committed to MM, who was at the top of his game.

They can talk about cultural issues all they like, but the fact is that Bucks has turned them from a machine in 2011 to an average side just two years later.

Culture cannot be the sole excuse for their under-performance. That same 'culture' almost won them back-to-back flags.

The cold hard truth is that Bucks is not a good coach. Hell he was never that good a captain, just a great player that stood out like a sore thumb in an average side.

This Bucks/McGuire lovefest will end in tears. I can see in 2 to 3 years time if they don't improve, Bucks will get the flick and the McGuire dictatorship will finally collapse.

Looks like the hawks have pulled a similar shtick as Collingwood for their best and fairest.

Not only did they advise Buddy to not attend, but when going through the 2013 premiership side in order of jumper number, they skipped Buddy completely, like he wasn't a part of the premiership.

That's a disgrace.

Did they actually advise Buddy not to attend?
There was a report in Melbourne that he is in Sydney attending Campbell Browns's bucks night.
But having said that, pretty poor from Hawthorn not to recognise him in their premiership 22.

Is that true? Leather Poisoning on the mainboard said that they showed a highlights package of him??

Any SA based ppl heading to the sanfl granny today?

Saw my last game at Footy Park at the Carlton game. Will leave it at that.

Double page cover of the Sunday Mail today is a ripper, Platten, Ebert, Cornes, Mighty Rick Davies, Robran.....even Roger Luders, all decked out in the club colours...............fantastic.

Redlegs by the length of The Parade.

Be worth watching, we always pick up a player or 2 from the Nathan Bassett Finishing School.

This is true.

But, Clarkson and there President also paid a massive tribute to Buddy and they also showed a 3 minute highlights package and at the end apparently everyone in the room stood up and cheered.

Huh, I didn't hear about that part. Why would they have told him not to attend then?

Not sure if that is 100% true either, I think you will find that he chose not too.

The last player I was really unhappy about losing was Aaron Hamill.

Dockers nearly passed on gun Fyfe
While arguments raged, a firm declaration of commitment to Fyfe from then recruiting manager Phil Smart divided the Dockers' selection team, with the senior coach of the time Mark Harvey understood to have had concerns about taking the skinny kid from Lake Grace.

Harvey was adamant that his recruiting staff should take tough North Melbourne in-and-under follower Ryan Bastinac from Victoria's Dandenong Stingrays.

There was a belief the scrawny country kid had played too much school footy, colts with Claremont and even the national under-18 championships as a wide-receiving winger and flanker.

Even a stunning six-goal colts' grand final performance hadn't been enough to convince doubting Dockers coaching staff that Fyfe was a wise draft choice.
