We are actually in a really good position salary cap wise.Sam Edmund Reported a few days ago that we don’t have any salary cap problems
From the you-know-who board:We are actually in a really good position salary cap wise.
Probably a post for the list management thread but Macrea's contract didn't grow with the new CBA so isn't actually too outlandish(especially compared to Oliver who will see 1 Mil turn into 1.3 Mil per year)From the you-know-who board:
''Macrae is ok but hes contracted til 2027 on big money same as daniel which is why they cant afford to keep smith. Id only take him on if the dogs gave us a pick upgrade.''
We are obviously the only club with a salary cap...
I'll never cotton on to how the above club has had so many stars on such low contracts. Sigh.
I know, merely pointing out the misconceptionSam Edmund Reported a few days ago that we don’t have any salary cap problems
Don't you mean we are the only club that sticks to the salary cap….i often wonder if that is part of the deal with the AFL that we just have to sit down and shut up and be good little citizensIt’s funny how we’re the only club with a salary cap.
Maybe Laura can figure it out….shes pretty good at her job right? From the you-know-who board:

Out: Bont, Adz, Astro."I would rather the ball in Sicily, Scrimshaw, Amon or D’Ambrosio hands than any bulldogs player. We beat the bulldogs last year and again this year and we will beat them again next time we play them. Talk us down as much as you want but there is a lot of talent at the Hawks you haven’t even come close to seeing the best of! Would rather squeeze Weddle, Ward and Mackenzie into our midfield rotation and keep our 1st draft pick than get Baz who is not a highly skilled player."
The arrogant Hawthorn nuffies are beginning to emerge again
That Dale is a shithouse kick. Richards too. Awful.Out: Bont, Adz, Astro.
In: Amon, Scrimshaw, D'Ambrosio.
All the same, I'd be quite happy to take Newcombe off their hands...That Dale is a shithouse kick. Richards too. Awful.
They've certainly got some good players, but Scrimshaw and D'Ambrosio over any player from the dogs. Lol.All the same, I'd be quite happy to take Newcombe off their hands...
This is way Hawthorn fans were so hated by everyone nothing but arrogant pricks"I would rather the ball in Sicily, Scrimshaw, Amon or D’Ambrosio hands than any bulldogs player. They are the 'family club'. Hence lots of in-breeding.This is way Hawthorn fans were so hated by everyone nothing but arrogant pricks
We got them at the wrong time and kick-started their rise this yearThe arrogant Hawthorn nuffies are beginning to emerge again
And thinking that the Bulldogs and North aren't on the same level of 'favoured clubs' as the Saints. This has about 20 likes on the Saints board:
Agree with he is a huge risk, but have anyone thought WHY we have to scrape the barrel for talent?
Brisbane beat smashed us and are flag favourites but get the best mid in the draft in Ashcroft for chump change.
Bulldogs beat us destroyed us earlier this year are second flag favourites but got JUH for free and get a bunch of Darcy's for bugger all in picks
Premiers Collingwood got two Daicos and Moore for chump picks.
Northern clubs get all the NGA's they want for free, we miss out on McKenzie.
North destroy their list on purpose and get multiple free dps.
WHAT DO WE GET? SFA and we have to look at TT or Clayton Oliver or get rid of Battle for an extra pick or talent like King or Rohan for two.
How do you feel as a Saints fan to know the AFL purposely allows the favoured clubs to get this top ten players for 2nd and third round picks AND also keep their first rounder?
They want us just to exist for TV rights. Kane and Dillon won't change this rort, they are allowing this to happen again this year.
So we are forced to look at Thomas or Oliver as we don't get free players like these other clubs.
Imagine seeing your club draft Billings, McCartin, Clark and Coffield over Bont, Petracca and Naughton and give Dan Hannebery’s corpse a 5 year deal, amongst a raft of other bad moves, and thinking that actually it’s not having a couple of F/S that keeps it stuck where it is…
I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that he thinks we are one of the favoured clubs. This has about 20 likes on the Saints board:

Great way to try and justify supporting abusers. And thinking that the Bulldogs and North aren't on the same level of 'favoured clubs' as the Saints.
It's not St Kilda's fault they have to consider recruiting Tarryn Thomas, it's everyone else's!
From the club who recruited Dan Hannebery, Jake Carlisle, Andrew Lovett, Lance Collard etc etc. 'Due diligence' is their forte! Not to mention the success which follows it.Do people actually think the club would sign Tarryn Thomaswithout doing any due diligence?PLAYERCARDSTART26Tarryn Thomas

Happy to back the club in and glad to hear they are looking at every possible option to improve the playing list.
Picking up an A great talent for free is not a bad starting point.

But instead they have Ross and SosGone for a splash in the Egyptian river?
TBF clubs like theirs and ours are in that gift-free zone that can mean they end up mid-table for years on end. As they have. To get out of the doldrums you need to do everything right (like nailing your top draft picks) and have a bit of luck (like having your 100 gamers produce lots of good footballers). We've had both and the Saints have had neither.
We ourselves moan about the dream run that the northern clubs get with their academies, COLA etc. And the cushy draw and blockbuster fixtures that the big Vic clubs get year after year.
We have been punching above our weight for a decade now. For one reason or another the Saints haven't been able to put a decent list together for about that same period. Some of it is due to circumstances beyond their control but as you say they have made a few embarrassingly poor list decisions over that period too.
We've shown it's possible.
They don't need charity. They just need to get themselves an imaginative coach and - above all - a top quality list manager and recruiter.
