He was correct in what he said. Geelong is the only team to both have their own ground and not travel interstate every second week. It’s not two separate things. Obviously he is wrong on the derby argument.

It's a bit overstated though.

Adelaide to Melbourne - 1hr 20mins

Perth to Melbourne - 3hr 30 mins

So for the worst teams they have an extra two hours travel time than Geelong.

It's the Melbourne teams that have the significant travel advantage.

It's genuinely getting concerning. They want to be what Hawthorn was so badly and they just can't get us to reciprocate the energy.

It's been said before perfectly, nobody at Geelong cares about Richmond.

I don't really dislike any side that much as I try to appreciate football outside of the bitterness that is displayed between opposition fans, but like most Geelong supporters if there was to be one it would be Hawthorn.

Richmond doesn't even register. 35 years of irrelevance will do that to you.

To sum up how I feel:

Last weekend when Cumberland played on, I thought it was hilarious as far as the reaction of Tiger fans went. No problem admitting that. I like seeing their fans upset. But as far as the game itself went I’d have love to have seen him have a shot and I was genuinely sad for him from the instant he realised what had happened.


Not so much now but 5-10-15 years ago if that had been any player in a Hawks jersey I’d have been enjoying their pain.

The difference between Hawthorn and Richmond, at least IMO, is that deep down there is some begrudging respect between the two sides, and that you can have a somewhat civilised conversation with their fans. That's an impossibility with Richmond supporters.

I can still remember Richmond fans on the main board claiming the 2017 Richmond side was better than the 2007 Geelong side - their reasoning being they won every final by 5+ goals while Geelong only snuck past the Pies in the Prelim, conveniently ignoring the two 100+ point wins either side of that game.

I hate Hawthorn with an unbridled passion but they were a f***ing great football side and always got themselves up for us at our peak. Players like Hodge, Roughead, Lewis, these were hard uncompromising players and I have all the respect in the world for them.

Like the "is Geelong-Richmond the new Geelong-Hawthorn" thread. I said no because most Geelong fans don't care about the Tigers, especially not like we do Hawthorn. Also how whilst losing in 17, 19 and 20 sucked, to me they're just like all the other years besides 2008, where we've lost in the finals. They're just games that don't bother me anymore and don't bother me like 2008.

But nope, I'm wrong and Richmond is in our heads and all we care about are the Tigers.
