The message that I have received today around the new coach appointment is:

“there will be very little disappointment to the fan base on who is selected for the senior coaching role & additional coaching panel”
Although this may be a 2 year rebuild

Apparently requested by Fagan the board have agreed to put no limits on coaching expenses financially if the recommendations are well justified, this is for both new coaches & termination payments on the current panel.

I believe there has been a conclusion from a coaching review that the club has fell very short in opposition analysis & strategy. The countermeasure may become a similar structure to be created in line of the current Hawthorn mould from all reports.

In summery I believe we will attain a new football coaching director and inclusive try and poach well regarded coaches with this craft. Does this mean an Adem Yze or a Garry Hocking may be looked at I’m not sure?

Regarding the Alastair Clarkson rumours, Id suggest there is not much in this if anything. Personally, no news has come through on poaching a contracted elite senior coach so the only likely hood of this rumour may be consultation, referee interview or someone wanting attention.
So looking like a burns, yze combo..

Feenix have you actually looked into his CV?

I’m not suggesting Mark Stone should be afl head coach, but I wonder if we can find a role for him. He actually has a lot of afl level experience. He is actually more qualified to be our senior assistant than Campo.

West Coast 2003-2007
- Opposition analyst

Sydney 2008-2011
- Stoppage coach

Fremantle 2012-2017
- midfield coach (2012-2015)
- forwards coach (2016-2017)

Glenelg 2018-2019 (premiership)

Apparently before joining afl system he coached his own team in Wagga Wagga. Then was an assistant coach at South Fremantle in 2002 before he joined the AFL (West Coast) in 2003.

So he has had 15 yrs in afl system and coached an SANFL side in his own right to a premiership.

Very qualified for a Senior assistant role.
Don't disagree with that at all, my comments were in relation to the head coach role. He's far more qualified for an asst role than Mattner/Godden/Schofield imo.

Caracalla doesn’t want to be a head coach allegedly.
Which would be confirmed by him going to Essendon and then appointing Rutten until 2023

Yeah exactly, I think many dismissed Caracella as the belief is he doesn’t want the top job.

Personally I like Burns resume, worked at 3 big clubs, was captain of the biggest sporting club in Australia, has worked with prominent coaches and has now worked under one of, if not the, greatest coaches ever, certainly in the modern era. A coach whom has either won, or former apprentices have won the last 7 premierships (inc this Saturday with both Hardwick and Cameron spending time under Caleko).

Having said that, if Caracella is in fact interested, I’d be very keen on him too. Premierships just seem to follow the guy.

End of the day, none of us have a great idea and can really only go on what they’ve done.

So effectively what many of us have been saying for some time. For whatever reason, whilst I think we’ve done well with our appointing of senior coaches in Walsh/Pyke, we have skimped on the assistants/support staff.

There would be cobwebs on our Opposition Analysis Manager's desk

As much as I don’t want to lose him from the Bay, if I was the Crows I’d take him in a heartbeat

His ability to get young men playing the way they need to in order to win games of footy is first rate. I’ve seen it the past two years. He is a very good speaker - no bells and whistles, very simple, clear and inspiring but not in a rah-rah way.

One of the first things I heard him say is that success in footy is pretty simple - it is effort, repeated. He emphasized it again in his post match acceptance of the coaches medal. Add that to an excellent defensive structure, very attacking football when in possession, ferocious tackling and a team commitment and you get the Glenelg premiership.

We could do a lot worse and perhaps not much better
Very good post.

Maybe a coach like Fagan who's first order of business on Day 1 was to make the Lions a place that players wanted to stay long-term. My Mum (God rest her soul) was a one-eyed Crows supporter and even though I've been in Brisbane over 25 years (and support you know who these days) I do have mixed feelings when Crows / Lions play. Good to see Eddie Betts get his 4th best goal award last night and to think the ex-coach (who had no idea with each passing week) dropped him to SANFL this season. All the best for 2020.

GoTY and form are a bit different though.

This is not about Senior Coach role but
Any truth in the rumours that Godden is well-liked by the playing group and is someone they trust and can talk too.
If true one would believe he is safe for 2020.

I’m happy for him to get another year, along with Mattner. As newbies they walked into a shit show and doesn’t seem they would have too much influence.

I head Graham Cornes on 5AA this week say he ran into 3 crows players - one a younger, one middle aged (???) and a more senior bloke. He asked what sort of coach they needed and the response was someone who cared about the players and they can go to for support.

Asked if any of the coaches at the moment were like that there was a big pause and then 'well, maybe Godden'.

Sounds like a great relationship between players and coaches...which was evident at last year's B&F as I've mentioned a few times before

Yeah I've heard that the players love Godden too. Not sold on him as a coach yet but at least he is well received byvthe players
