Are we going to be better off with Houston? We've survived without him, we shouldn't over pay just because we think he MIGHT make us better.
Considering his main challengers are Markov, Parker and Noble if he wasn't leaving, then Houston makes them 3 look like hacks. He will definitely make us better

Nah hes a muppet 100% now. I used to listen to him on SEN a lot and his analysis is quite good when hes not trying to stir shit. The problem is all he wants to do is stir shit now
He does stir shit, but I think this is pure pettiness. He has an extremely strong stance on contracts and he’s watching absolute bog average role players get significant deals. It’s broken him.

I would of thought now hes comfortably secure in the media he would drop the villain role a bit and be a bit more impartial

Wrong, most reporters, not just Jon Ralph have reported that Carlton would offer their F1 & F2 for GC13.
For someone who preaches to others about football knowledge, you are certainly limited on this topic.
You’ve completely misunderstood my post. I wasn’t referring to what Carlton is trying to get for an offer, I was referring to the part where Houston apparently wants to go to Carlton. He wants to come to Victoria first and foremost, there’s a reason why he hasn’t actually nominated a club. Ralphy and co are just trying to wish a Carlton nomination in to existence.

As for my knowledge on this topic, don’t worry your pretty little head about it, I’m all over it. Moreso than many others on here.

He’s just jealous that he played in an era where as a bog average player he couldn’t get a big pay day himself.

Well what do you expect from a Murdoch paper & their journalist stooges. Personally I do not read either the Herald-Sun or the Australian. Whenever I come across a copy of either, it goes straight into the rubbish bin or I may use it for weed control in the garden. Honestly those journalists simply loathe Collingwood. Goodbye & good luck.
Keep the sudoko page though ... :p

He improves us, whether we can do it without him and set up our long term spine is the question for mine.

Can a pick be traded back to the club that started with it?

As in, could we get pick 13 from GC as part of Noble trade, then trade it to Port as part of Houston trade, who then send it back to GC as part of Lukosius trade?

I know it won’t happen coz GC want points instead of pick 13 but is such a circular pick trade actually allowed?

Sorry, Luckylee, I didn't see your post last night but I reckon you are spot on in regards to GC intentions.

It might just be me, but I think it’s encouraging him to go harder… Both him and his boy are obsessed with US sport and he wants to be the Australian version of Stephen A Smith. He usually doesn’t mind being a lightning rod for criticism, but he slipped up earlier this week when he replied to thr random on X over his flip flopping on Collingwood’s trading for the future.

Once Port lost out on Perryman it sent him off the edge - he was a huge part of their planning and their future once Huston left. He still can't come to grips with it and is dead set on revenge. Then knowing that we might get Huston is like rubbing salt into the open wound. Soooo good!!!

Shit deal. If we let Noble and a future first go for 13 and 29 and Richmond get 6 and 23 for Rioli then we are getting ****ed by Gold Coast. Rioli’s never been an all Australian in 9 seasons he is worth nowhere close to that
Devils in the detail Seedsfan. I said 6 and 23 for Rioli, a f2 and the academy points for Lombard. Plus it's irrelevant to our deal. An upgrade to our second round pick, plus Houston is a ripping deal for us.

It’s not that because he doesn’t rate Perryman. If anything he’d be happy they missed on him because of the contract they had in front of him.

In regards to Houston it’s that Collingwood and Richmond might get good value out of Noble and Rioli while Port are likely to take unders on Houston. I mean seriously in what world is Rioli worth 6 and Houston worth 13 +?

What about Noble and Markov for 6 (GC get their 2 mature running half back flanks and keep 13 which they split for Sydney’s 19 and 22), Pies keep our future first and give 6 and Richards to Port for Houston, Port split pick 6 with the Tigers for 2 later firsts (14-20 range that the Tigers may get with trades for Bolton to Freo and Baker to Eagles, Port give the lower pick back to GC for Lukocious.

Pies then look to trade out our future first back into the first round of the 2024 draft.

Lots of mentions about the immense value of First round and future first round picks ....unless we really crash out for a couple of years (eg Richmond / North / Westcoast) who get a series of top 5 picks over 2-3 consecutive years I am not convinced of the value when adjusted for risk (a. do they convert to a good player b. do they stay fit and available c. do they get poached after 2 years etc).
First round picks play on the imagination ("it could be Pendlebury / Hodge / Franklin" etc) ..... but our more likely order of our first rounders are somewhere between 14-20 by the time priority pick / various father sones / academy players / compensation picks etc).......to put some historical pick in this as examples (picks 30 and below) 2017 pick Jaidyn Stephenson 6; 2018 Isaac Quanor 13; Will Kelly 29, 2019 none; 2020 Ollie Henry 17, Finn Macrae 19, Reef McInness 23, Caleb Poulter 30; 2021 Nick Daicos 4 (but keep in mind we did not have pick 4 .,......that was a father son pick!) 2022 Ed Allen 19, Jacob Ryan 28......
Out of the list Daicos is exception - but we did not have pick 4 and would not have got except for father son concession.....Quanor has converted to a good player.....but so far the remainder have been a bust or perhaps remain "a chance" - Eg Allen....
My point? - picking a proven quantity - eg Houston - you know they have answered the risk questions a) do they convert to a good player (All Australian twice), do they stay fit (not 100% guaranteed but Houston is a better bet than say a Krueger (or Sharenberg / Freeman)), will they get poached ......if they choose your club in their prime - you more than likely get them for 5-6 year for term of contract .......feels like a pretty good bet for picks?!

No it is not irrelevant. If he is worth that than we should get 13 and 29 without giving up our future first

"Noble and Markov for pick 6". Close up shop, guys. This thread is officially done

And if he's worth that, Houston should be way out of reach. You're suffering from FOMO which results in MO in deals.

It’s great to have confidence to post in an open forum that you know more than most of them in here.
And thanks for calling me pretty, I’m blushing.
