Clearly we don’t have Leppa at the club for his looks. But he seems to be delivering in other areas.

The Houston trade is very nice.😊

But to be greedy - who’s next?
Let's cut Freos lunch and turn those third round picks into Shai Bolton.

Since it doesn’t seem possible for us to get a decent Murphy replacement for next season ( I don’t think tomillison would offer any more than frampton)

Is there any chance Mcstay could thrive as a full back? He’s a good contested marker that doesn’t kick bags anyway, Moore can play his preferred role again.

Then partner Mihocek with one of membrey/hayes/krueger/day/ who I think can all potentially give the same amount of goal production as mcstay up forward.

For their sake would hope this kid is better than Houston! I’m pretty confident he won’t be, at least not for 5+ years
With their drafting record I’d be confident that he won’t be for his entire career.
Statistically they’re far more likely to get a middling player like Murphy or Gibbs or even a spud like Dow than they are to get a genuine star.

I’d give Gold Coast an A+

They dumped two players weighing down their cap, added JFN and improved their draft hand next year with two future first rounders.
Honestly media commentators have no clue. GC made out like bandits and they’re given the worst mark 🙄

So now that is done, after becoming all Australian last year, Houston asked to renegotiate his contract, he is on $600 a year. Power said no.

Then recruited Esava at $750, you can imagine how this went down with CSM and the Houston camp. So earlier this year they asked again, and were rejected again. So they did the deal to go to Melbourne, except Melbourne imploded.

Given Tracs manager is the same as Houstons, he bailed on the deal, having knowledge of what is going on at Melbourne. And then asked to be traded to Carlton or us, whoever could do the deal, which is why he didn't nominate. Carlton don't have the cap space, they need to sign TDK next year as everyone is after him as a free agent.

Now we have him for 6 years, and can front end him to make up what he feels he is worth, which is much more than what he was on at Port.

So they had their chance, twice, and didn't take it, and he is going to be our best acquisition in many years.

Unrelated to that, Butters is gettable next year, club/s are already into him, I am sure you can guess which club that might be, and I think he will leave, which should send Port supporters into total meltdown again.

It's not a bad idea. McStay is a very good main marking target up forward though. Membrey and Hayes can't play that role (Hayes cant be relied on as a starter in any role). We'd need someone who's good one on one and also mobile enough to get from contest to contest.

I'm just hoping we can have McStay and Mihocek play together most of the season. Reckon they're a strong forward combo.

nah I think the deals fine, it’s just that the Rioli trade is so batshit crazy that it’s skewed everyone’s perception of what players are worth
The difference is Gold Coast had leverage over us in the Houston trade. Richmond didn’t have any deals relying on the Rioli trade and could hold out until they got what they want.

Is Butters out of contract at the end of next year?
